To dislike "Radical Feminism"

InternetPerson · 25/09/2015 21:15

I've got nothing against feminists that fight for womens rights and genuinely want the best the best for everyone and don't hate anyone, but "RadFems" tend to be full of bitterness and hatred. And I'm not just talking about kids, these are high profile, intelligent women with power and influence. Do you think it's unreasonable to dislike something where most people think men are inherantly evil and to be feared? Or do you think their hatred is fair and we should respect them for their good work in trying to make humans hate eath other even more?

Like, I said, I have nothing against Feminism, it's done a lot of great work down the years and still does, but "Rad Fem" and "Feminism" are too completly different things in my opinion. Is this a wrong conclusion?

Autumnnights1 · 27/09/2015 16:20

I think you're talking a load of shit. Doesn't mean I think I am above you.

CoteDAzur · 27/09/2015 16:28

Well, at least that makes a change from Ego's me-railing on every thread about feminism Hmm

Autumnnights1 · 27/09/2015 16:31

Why would I want to make things italic?
Aggressive now instead of passive aggressive Grin

Point proven even more.

CoteDAzur · 27/09/2015 16:33

Are you high?

The only thing that was recently proven here is that you don't know what the word 'radical' means.

I know what lots of words mean Cote.

I also know that they become irrelevant in our society. They become aggressive means of stating a case that is not necessary.

DiscoGoGo · 27/09/2015 16:34
Confused

So when the government says, after the economic crash and uncovering of illegal behaviour amongst the financial sector, and they say " we need radical reform of financial industry regulation to ensure this doesn't happen again", your interpretation of that is that the government are no longer rational.

Well righty-ho then.

I think, probably, it's what you think radical feminism stands for that is the problem (thinking men are evil, being bitter & etc as listed in the OP) and nothing to do with the actual word.

If radical feminism was renamed tomorrow (and like any political movement that's going to be tricky as there is no definitive "this is it") as "lovely feminism" it wouldn't be long before this name was deemed awful as well.

Because it's not the name it's what it stands for that people don't like. As others have pointed out already on this thread.

Just couldn't not post at the idea that anything with the word "radical" in it is by definition irrational Confused

Why on earth do you think that you have to become some sort of group? and defend it?

Ridiculous.

FinglesMcStingles · 27/09/2015 16:37

Okay. I've spent enough of my life being sneered at by people who take umbrage at my ability to string a sentence together. I'm out (at least until the conversation moves away from having a go at people for their mastery of English).

Autumnnights1 · 27/09/2015 16:37

Im a feminist, thats quite adequate.

Autumnnights1 · 27/09/2015 16:38

Radical = unbalanced

"The post-2008 financial crisis was the most severe in living memory, and its
effect is still being felt today. The ramifications for the EU have been particularly acute. Its response, encapsulated in a set of some 40 legislative proposals, has brought about a radical transformation in the EU financial sector regulatory framework."

From HOUSE OF LORDS European Union Committee 5th Report of Session 2014–15: "The post-crisis EU financial regulatory framework: do the pieces fit?

Seriously autumn, you have a problem with this usage, and usage like it?

iamaboveandBeyond · 27/09/2015 16:40

But radical doesnt mean unbalanced? Hmm

I honestly cant argue with someone who is insisting the sky is green.

Autumnnights1 · 27/09/2015 16:41

Umm, hate to break it to you Buffy, radical means one track, it does not mean compromise. In order to get anywhere, there needs to be this.

MrsTerryPratchett · 27/09/2015 16:42

Why on earth do you think that you have to become some sort of group? Unions. Because sometimes you need people in a group to make change.

TBF I thought I was a liberal feminist until I realised that lots of things I believe, are what radical feminism are about and lots of liberal feminist thought is not what I believe. And the name did put me off so I get what you are saying. But just because my beliefs match up with the definition of radical feminism, doesn't make me irrational.

Unbalanced and irrational? Words that are always associated with women getting uppity.

DiscoGoGo · 27/09/2015 16:42

OK x-posts

I don't think I can get to grips with the argument if that's the basis.

In your OP you said you didn't like radical feminism as it's about thinking all men are evil and radfems are bitter & etc

I genuinely think that it is your idea about that branch of feminism that is the problem rather than a word. I think that if it were called something else you would still dislike it (based on ideas about what it is that you've got from who knows where).

Autumnnights1 · 27/09/2015 16:42

Radical means huge change. Radical comes across as an aggressive form. However you like to come up with reasons, it just does.
