To not pay this bill

Had issues lately with my health. Nhs generally unhelpful so I went private

Saw a consultant the next day who ordered the necessary tests and promised the results a week later.......

Three weeks on and still no results. The hospital where tests were done said "it's here on the screen but we won't tell you. Phone the consultants secretary" which I have done.three days in a row.
Apparently the hospital haven't sent the results to them despite them asking repeatedly

Today I received the bill. It's hundreds of pounds. I needed the results before an important appt tomorrow and I don't have them despite them being promised within a week. I'm really annoyed

AIBU to refuse to pay until I actually get my results?

I don't think you can refuse to pay altogether, but refusing to hand over any money until you have actually had the service you paid for seems perfectly reasonable.

YANBU but whether you can do that or not depends on your contract. What does it say?

Hope the results are ok for you OP

You would certainly be justified in kicking up a fuss. What the legal position is, I have no idea.

Waitingimpatient · 24/09/2015 23:11

I have no idea about the contract I will have a look. I just want my test results!

Well, I emailed again today trying to get my results and nothing....

Apparently I have to pay within 30 days of each invoice. I'm very pissed off and think as I was told the results would take a week I should ha e them within that time frame ! I'm only going to pay once I have them

You have only revived part of the service you paid for therefore should only pay part of the bill. Is the bill broken down at all? You'd need to pay the consultation feebut not the test? Interpretation fee.

Autumnnights1 · 25/09/2015 21:11

I'd withhold until the whole agreement was met and not part pay. Once I received the results I would then pay for the consultation part only and look to have my bill reduced for the delay in results.

Waitingimpatient · 25/09/2015 21:23

It's £230 for the consultation, which to be fair I've had.... But the consultant said the results take a week (bloods were £150) and I still don't have them three weeks later

The hospital ha e them but won't tell me them but for some reason have not/won't send them to consultant. I've called and emailed four days in a row now and nothing she said she's chasing them up but I've heard nothing.

I really needed them as am starting anothe IVF cycle next week and I needed to know if anything else was going on. I explained all this to the consultant and she seemed sympathetic and said results would be back quickly ?

Check the T&Cs. At the very least you deserve a reduction, you've not had your results in the specified time plus piss poor communication and engagement.

VimFuego101 · 25/09/2015 21:26

I would withold the 150 for blood tests and write to them telling them why. Even if they give in and give them to you, they won't be much use if you don't have them by your appointment. I wonder who regulates complaints against private doctors? do they have an equivalent to PALS?

Waitingimpatient · 25/09/2015 21:29

I have no idea I will try and find out.

I'm just really and truly fed up. Had months of too high thyroid results and gp/nhs wouldn't help so decided to go private. Consultant was lovely and confident of quickly getting an answer as to what was wrong
I needed to know as didn't want to embark on the cycle if things were not right somewhere and now I don't know and I'm stressed. I feel let down and like I may as well have burnt the money as going private hasn't helped and we've already spent ££££ on fertility treatment (secondary so no nhs funding) I just want to scream
