AIBU?

They're not refugees, we're being invaded

I admit, the Syrians have got it bad. There is a war and those boys who haven't been shot by ISIL are being conscripted by the President.

But if life is that bad, why do they only want to go to Germany and if they can't go then then they'll go back to Syria.

Why are we now seeing people from Kazakstan joining the throngs?

I agree that people from Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria need help. But the thougsands and thousands of people coming through can't all be refugees in dire need of help if they are so picky as to where they will live.

They're invading Europe. And we are letting them. What's going to happen in 20 years? Will Christianity and western ways be swept under the carpet?

Actually if you have walked hundreds of miles and taken to the seas in an overcrowded dinghy while you were literally fleeing for your life then I disagree that being held in a camp or detention centre while your asylum application is processed would cause a huge amount of suffering, compared to what you've already been through.

I would imagine a safe (albeit overcrowded and boring) place, a warm bed and some food on the table three times a day wouldn't be the toughest thing in the world, actually, given what you've been through so far. I'm not saying it would be nice for them, but I do think it's absolutely necessary under the circumstances, at least for men travelling alone without a family.

I realise there is no cast iron guarantee that terrorists won't slip through the net, or that some of those young men who are processed and allowed to stay will not then become radicalised and turn to terrorism later, but at least it's doing something towards stopping it in its tracks, as opposed to doing nothing by just allowing them to walk in unhindered because we are overwhelmed by numbers. Although thankfully it seems that the UK is not doing that, but the same cannot be said for mainland Europe, hence how this attacker ended up in France.

I agree we should do something to alleviate the burden on other countries such as Lebanon, Jordan and Turkey, even if those people don't technically fulfill the definition of refugees. But given that we are not legally obliged to take them at all, I don't see why we should be made to feel guilty about making it as difficult as possible for ISIS sympathisers to slip through the net.
