I posted here as Roald Dahl day is tomorrow. My DS2 has to come as a character from a book, or in yellow -Roald's favourite colour, the letter said. I've been searching online for ideas and just can't find anything that I could do at home.
I dont know why I didn't think to post before Confused

Anyway, we don't have the money to buy anything for this, and so yellow is out - Roald Dahl Character it is - just no idea what?

DS2 has issues with a few things, which do include dressing up, in public. He'll do it at home, just not out. (being assessed at the moment)

Any ideas? Other Roald Dahl days out there? I would appreciate any tips on this!

I went as Mr Twit.

Shirt. Tie. Face paint beard.

Stuck a few cornflakes to my shirt for disgusting ness.

calzone · 23/09/2015 07:32

Charlie Bucket.

Jeans, checked shirt.

School uniform with shorts - cloth cap, hand knitted jumper if you have them, soft toy that could be a pheasant - Danny Champion of the World.

Tuiles · 23/09/2015 07:33

Just go in normal clothes and be Danny champion of the world'? Maybe a sack with a pillow in to look like pheasants?

When one of mine had to wear yellow for sports day I found a t-shirt for 75p in a charity shop.

Datschi · 23/09/2015 07:35

There are lots of boys in Roald Dahl books, so he could just wear normal clothes (I always imagine blue trousers and a stripy top) and carry an accessory or two to show who he is.

Eg for Charlie Bucket from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory he could wear a scarf and carry a Golden Ticket.

Or for Danny the Champion of the World he could wear dark coloured clothes and a dark hat and carry a packet of raisins.

The boy from The Witches would carry two white mice.

Or George's Marvellous Medicine - a big bottle with "Grandma's Medicine" written on it.

GreatFuckability · 23/09/2015 07:35

My son went as Charlie bucket. Stripy jumper and a home made golden ticket.

Iamnotloobrushphobic · 23/09/2015 07:38

Fantastic mr fox - a waistcoat, trousers tucked into socks, a tail made from a leg cut from an old pair of tights and stuffed with kitchen roll and a pair of cardboard ears on a headband. Then just draw on a few whiskers with an eyeliner.

shutupanddance · 23/09/2015 07:41

Ordinary boy clothes with a label ie Im Charlie (choc factory) or George (marv medicine) etc

pudcat · 23/09/2015 07:43

Can you cut a giant peach out of cardboard and decorate it with the insect characters? Then he could just carry it or if you made 2 wear them as a sandwich board type thing.

pudcat · 23/09/2015 07:44

Augustus Gloop. Just stuff a cushion up his shirt.

Verypissedoffwife · 23/09/2015 07:45

My daughter went as Matilda - a dress, hairband and a "trolley" of books. The trolley can be made from a cardboard box and a roller skate.

Verypissedoffwife · 23/09/2015 07:47

Or Violet Beauregard - she could just wear a tracksuit?

Verypissedoffwife · 23/09/2015 07:50

Sorry it's for your son - totally misread the op!

Margaritte · 23/09/2015 11:58

Thanks for all the suggestions - I will show DS2 when he is home from school, and see what which one he wants to go with Smile

Easiest ones are definitely Charlie (and the Chocolate Factory) Danny (the Champion of the World) George (of Marvellous Medicine fame) - or Matilda or Sophie from BFG for girls!

Margaritte · 24/09/2015 11:42

DS2 decided on Charlie. DH sat up last night to make him an oversized Wonka Bar and a Golden Ticket. Grin

Thank you for helping!
