Good morning. I have an idea about a dadsnet website, but not really sure on how to start it. I have had a website for a year and only recently discovered it has 50 visitors a day, which is a good start I guess. Any ideas?
Thanks
Tim

ha, men have just as much time on their hands, in my country they're all over on "boards.ie" or whatever you have in england that is the equivalent of that. going on about cars, marvel comics and how women won't shag them. Scary place.

WhatDoesTheUrbaneFoxSay · 20/09/2015 10:38

Actually, OP you could do worse than have a look at boards.ie, I hate the place but as a forum it's very successful. The list of topics is very male. The majority of posters are male.

In the way that the accepted thinking here is quite 'equalist', feminist, supportive to women's issues and needs, the thinking on that predominantly male board is very sexist imo. But it is successful in terms of the number of posters and as a business. If you could create boards.co.uk that was not so sexist and nerdy, and not moderated by bitter virgins, I'd commend you. Go for it.

Egosumquisum yes, I feel like very often I read something in the paper and think, hang on, that very subject was being discussed on mumsnet two days ago.

Building a website aimed at Dads is not a bad idea per se, but the challenge you face is building a large enough community. You need to have enough traffic and changing/interesting content to keep people coming back. Any website seeking to challenge the established communities will have its work cut out for it. What can you offer that will make people want to keep coming back?

I'm a dad. Why would I want to visit your site? What could I get from your site which I can't get from here?

Holty41 · 20/09/2015 10:56

Okay. As I have said, I have a domain for a dadsnet website already that is getting visitors already, but I have no information on the website as of yet. I have had the domain for a year, but done nothing until I received an email asking if I want to renew it. If people are interested, please email me on [email protected] with ideas and if I get enough interest I will try to do it on my own for now and see what happens. Thanks everyone and have a nice weekend, what's left of it.

If you have basic web skills (?), why didn't you use Google before you came here?

Holty41 · 20/09/2015 11:11

Crikey. All I wanted was to see if people would make use of a Dadsnet website. I don't want it to be a money making site, just a community really. A couple of advertisers on it would be great to help keep the site running. Tim

Won't it just be a duplicate of this dite? We might not have as many men posting here as women, but I'd bet a hell of a lot more lurk

Holty41 · 20/09/2015 11:22

What is AIBU, this is my first time here and I just searched the site for dadsnet. This would not be a full time thing at this stage. I just have a few hours spare in the evenings and wanted to help out.

Are you sure you want to get into IT? You seem less computer savvy than my grandma. Why do you keep writing your name? Confused

Anyway, I'm pretty sure touting for business breaks talk guidelines, so your thread will probably be deleted soon.

AndDeepBreath · 20/09/2015 11:56

"I have a domain but don't know how to do anything else really or I wouldn't be posting here like this can someone email me with some money?"

DrDreReturns · 20/09/2015 12:04

I don't mean to be harsh but I'm sure it's been tried or already exists. I think you'd be wasting your time.

TenForward82 · 20/09/2015 12:29

Wow. Just wow.

Tim, find something else to do. I doubt this will be successful for you.

You come onto a forum that you don't even know about asking for advice on how you can make money for what is essentially a competitor site. Can you not see how cheeky that is?

SurlyCue · 20/09/2015 12:42

yeah that's the spirit! that's how Justine runs MN, just a few hours in the evening and she only gets minimum wage. that's all there is to it.

FarFromAnyRoad · 20/09/2015 13:08

Tim. Would you like some advice? Sure you would!

Don't, in the name of all that is holy, give up the day job.

No need to thank me, the invoice is in the post.
Whilst you're waiting you could see if halfwitsnet.com is available?

Sparklingbrook · 20/09/2015 13:11

Hilarious. Grin

LineyReborn · 20/09/2015 13:16

The dadsnet board on here is a bit tumbleweed.com tbh.

Egosumquisum

(Look at TES. A website for teachers. "Professionally moderated". Yet it gets sod all traffic)

Because they took down a perfectly functional set-up and replaced it with the shambles of click-where-how-many-times excuse for threads.

WTF were they thinking?
