This was said to me by my 'D'P. I got upset by his comment and he thinks I should just get over it, it's a joke.

AIBU to feel like he's right? I don't believe I'm not intelligent but after his nasty "joke" I just feel like crap.

Just to add, I'm 26 weeks pregnant with a girl.

Is this part of a pattern of comments from him, or a one off?

As a one off I'd have just replied something like 'let's hope she gets my looks then'.

Not a one off. He's told me before that He thinks he's more intelligent than me. Last night he even told me when he met me he thought I was thick.

I'm 41 weeks pregnant & can be extremely hormonal at times believe me, but me & dp always joke.
I say if the baby comes out with jug ears it's his fault, he says he hopes baby gets his brains. But then again we have a "jokey" relationship so it's impossible to say if your being too highly strung or if your DH is being nasty.

From the previous comments id say he's being a twat and doesn't respect you. Does he have form pre-pregnancy for this?

In that case it's time for a proper sit down talk when you are both calm, not after he's made a comment, to explain how it makes you feel. Something like 'I know you intend it as a joke, but when you keep saying these things it makes me feel like you really mean it' If he cares about you then he'll stop.

Dp and I have joked that we hope the baby has my skin (he suffers from dermatitis) and brains and his looks, I didn't take that to mean I'm ugly and he's more intelligent.
I think people do joke about things like that when they are due a child, however - if it has upset you and he has brought it up in the past and was aware then too that you were hurt then that's different and for that YANBU

Long term, he also needs to understand that he can't say that sort of thing in front of your child either.

If you are thick then that makes him not that intelligent for wanting to be with a stupid person. Tell him that . He doesn't sound very nice.
It definitely is a joke phrase heard many times, but given his usual nasty remarks yanbu to be upset.

One of the least intelligent things a person can do is think that they're better than other people. Or that they are the judge of someone else's intelligence.
