to think Corbyn is dead in the water

Yes he's a nice chap with a nice beard, but silliness (principled though it might be) like refusing to sing the national anthem is not going to endear him to more than a small minority of the population.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-34263447

And the signs are that he intends to be the gift that keeps on giving, in terms of pointless gestures that don't really achieve anything but make him a mega-target for the right-wing press.

Either he gets turfed out before the next GE, or he surpasses Michael Foot as the biggest loser in Labour's history.

I think he is as awful as UKIP. Both are extremes and both are bloody dangerous. At least the UKIP set up their own party rather than hijacking the Tories.

And largest Labour membership for 16 years hardly equates to 'dead in the water' does it?!

CheekyMaleekey · 15/09/2015 18:59

I'd gladly vote for him in the GE. So refreshing to see a politician who isn't an utter sycophant.

oldshilling · 15/09/2015 18:59

And by the way, while the media is being dominated by this meaningless stunt, the Tories managed to successfully slash tax credits, the vote passed easily today.

Hard left Corbyn might have pretty principles, but he will achieve less than the 'sell-outs'.

BoiteDeStinkyweed · 15/09/2015 18:59

He's in favour of homeopathy, therefore I can't take anything he says or does seriously. God know how much NHS resources he'd waste on it.

badgergirl82 · 15/09/2015 18:59

It wasn't a pointless gesture.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 15/09/2015 19:06

Man refuses to sing song right wing press self combusts with faux outrage.

Misnomer · 15/09/2015 19:10

He's very far from dead in the water. I like him. He's principled. With his own actual principles, not ones that spin doctors have told him to have.

PermetsTu · 15/09/2015 19:12

OP, can you explain how a man sticking to his principles is a meaningless stunt, please?

Coffeethrowtrampbitch · 15/09/2015 19:13

Perhaps he just couldn't remember the words Grin.

I've never sung it in my life and couldn't tell you the lyrics if you paid me. Perhaps Jeremy is in the same boat as me as that's why he went the route of respectful silence?

The only version recall is a spoof one 'care for our pussy cats, goldfish and cricket bats, we've watered the cabbage patch, God save the beans.'

Very moving.

Inkanta · 15/09/2015 19:13

I love the way he's not playing to the media. It's what they deserve and they need to shape up if they want to win respect. He plays up to the public though - loves them. Rushed out to greet them after his speech today. Refreshing.

sanfairyanne · 15/09/2015 19:13

Its a load of crap anthem. Why does anyone sing it??

Snoozebox · 15/09/2015 19:14

Well done Jeremy.

SeldomAthleticFC · 15/09/2015 19:20

Good for him! I don't sing it either. The words are bloody awful.
The media are foaming at the mouth because he treats them with the contempt they deserve and Murdoch et al can't stand it.

Orangeanddemons · 15/09/2015 19:21

I don't know anyone who sings it, or even knows it. Or even cares about it.

Corbyn's the one for me.

HeighHoghItsBacktoWorkIGo · 15/09/2015 19:23

YANBU OP.

The looks on the MPs faces tell it all. Labour MPs Sad Tory MPs Grin

Behooven · 15/09/2015 19:24

". This is the man who sympathised with violent Irish Republicanism in the 1980s, invited IRA representatives to the Commons a fortnight after the Brighton bombing in 1984 and, at a Troops Out meeting in 1987, stood for a minute??s silence to ??honour?? eight IRA terrorists killed in an SAS ambush."

Aye principled, Hmm
Not the word I use to describe him and his ilk.

LarrytheCucumber · 15/09/2015 19:25

I was going to say maybe he doesn't know the words, but Coffee beat me to it.

Hamiltoes · 15/09/2015 19:26

So fucking what if he doesn't sing the national anthem? Hmm

I wouldn't sing it either.

And the papers would be all over him if he did.

GiddyGiddyGoat · 15/09/2015 19:26

Well each to her own Beehoven... you can stick with those "principled" Tories then can't you? Cameron, Osborne and their 'ilk'

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 15/09/2015 19:27

Yanbu. I don't think I'm going to be a Corbyn fan.

GiddyGiddyGoat · 15/09/2015 19:27

He will be upset.

Alibabsandthe40Musketeers · 15/09/2015 19:28

How is he sticking to his principles? He has taken the offered seat on the Privy Council.

Refusing to sing the national anthem rather looks like a publicity stunt when you look at it alongside that fact.

jellybeans · 15/09/2015 19:29

I disagree. I think he will so better than expected. Maggie was seen in a similar way before she won the election.

The Monarchy isn't popular with everyone. Is it right one person lives in a huge mansion whilst others are homeless while we are being preached about austerity and all in it together?

The Tories savage far right cuts mean that JC could really win the next election if the party are not so arrogant they ignore members views.

Many people are questioning why they voted Tory. People are questioning the relentless propaganda also. If Tories had good policies they wouldn't have to try scare people away from JC, they are genuinely worried.
