AIBU to go to someone's wedding and wear white

When they came to mine in white very recently?
Yes, I know it's petty and I should do the grown up thing but it pissed me off quite a bit.
It was a very white, very wedding type dress.

Go in fancy dress and make sure you are conspicuous in all the photographs.

Fatmomma99 · 14/09/2015 20:43

Get a stupendous hat!

wizzywig · 14/09/2015 20:55

Photobomb their wedding pics

januaryjan · 14/09/2015 20:55

Go for the subtle approach.

Borrow Bjork's Swan Dress.

januaryjan · 14/09/2015 20:57

Or glue a couple of pounds of rashers and to your body and go all lady GAGA on her ass.

januaryjan · 14/09/2015 20:59

That should read 'to your body'

Not - 'and to your body'

ShipwreckedAndComatose · 14/09/2015 21:01

And when the vicar asks if anyone knows of any good reason, yell YES!!! From the back really loudly!!

miaowroar · 14/09/2015 21:14

Well I guess I must be even more petty (sigh) because I was a little put out when my own DM came to my wedding in a very pale cream/beige outfit whilst I was in white. This was 30+ years ago and I am now divorced, but it still irritates - but I never said a word to her about it. I just assumed IWBU. However, it is something I would never do.

Wear your wedding dress to her wedding.

Nothing else will do.

send us pictures of the brides face when she sees you

bearleftmonkeyright · 14/09/2015 21:20

Grin at photobombing their wedding pictures.

Snoozebox · 14/09/2015 21:22

Definitely black.

I'd wear this.

Sunshineandsilverbirch · 14/09/2015 21:45

Such classic look Chilli Grin

WhoreGasm · 14/09/2015 21:47

There's no need for you both to act like crass idiots. Be the adult here.

coffeeisnectar · 14/09/2015 21:48

Go as a bridesmaid.

Or dress as spongebob :o

AnyoneButAndre · 14/09/2015 21:50

Or my personal favourite, the Raquel Welch

ghostyslovesheep · 14/09/2015 21:53

well my (now ex) MIL managed to look miserable on every single photo - try that

I actually know someone (fOAF) who wore cream lace to a wedding this weekend

the bride also wore cream lace

the other woman knew this in advance as she is the future MIL! it was deliberate I think

Iwantakitchen · 14/09/2015 21:58

Yes wear a nice black dress with very sexy red shoes.

Muckogy · 14/09/2015 22:00

YABU. Don't lower yourself.

MrsGentlyBenevolent · 14/09/2015 22:01

No need to call the op names. I'm not sure they were 100% serious, just wanted to vent about a faux pas. To be fair, I don't usually care about fashion matters, but everyone knows wearing a blatent white dress to a wedding is not cool, I don't blame the op for being peeved.

I agree with pp, wear black. With a ridiculous hat that looks like it was nicked from Ladies Day at Ascot Wink.

TheDowagerCuntess · 14/09/2015 22:02

You will look like the unhinged one (assuming you were going down the full-on upstaging, meringue route), so on that basis, YABU.

I can't say I'd've noticed if anyone was wearing white to my day, but it's not something I would do.

Having said that, there are plenty of beautiful white/cream/ivory dresses around that aren't in the least bit bridal, that surely it would be fine to wear.

rainpouringrainbows · 14/09/2015 22:36

you are so right to have been really pissed off. She is lucky your best friend didn't accidentally covered her in red whine, whoopsy, butter fingers.

Don't wear white, just look amazing, in a subtle understated way (it that makes sense). Liz Hurley showing her leopard print knickers at a wedding was ridiculous. Think about something that will still look amazing in 20 years when they look at the wedding photos.

rainpouringrainbows · 14/09/2015 22:39

NO! wrong wrong wrong

OVienna · 14/09/2015 22:50

That is truly an extraordinary link, that Brides magazine article. Guide to being a Bridezilla. So glad I got married in the last century!
