Mop and then Vacuum.

Unless you use a steam mop, then you may vacuum then mop. Other than that no excuses. Vacuuming then mopping is the wrong way round.

No not usually, but if I'm on a kitchen cleaning mission I like to get it done in one hit rather than it being a multi-staged process spread over a morning/afternoon.

MissShunImpossible · 14/09/2015 17:16

Well, I'm going to try it your way next time Honey

Life just doesn't get more exciting than this Smile

Just for completeness, when does the dusting happen in your regime?

MissShunImpossible · 14/09/2015 17:20

Littlefluffy I had a vacuum/mop session this morning. Did the kitchen first, then up to the bathroom. By the time I had done the bathroom (cleaned bathroom before mopping, so about 20 mins probably) the kitchen was dry...

We don't have the heating on yet either.

Is it really taking hours to dry at your house?

HoneyDragon · 14/09/2015 17:22

Dust before any floor cleaning. With that Mr Sheen Express does all surfaces shnizzle. Because that stuff is the fucking bollocks.

I sweep then mop. Comes from working in a shop where you had hundreds of feet traipsing in crap all day, there's no way the mop would've done much except make it wet.

HoneyDragon · 14/09/2015 17:23

Yup my floors are usually dry by the time I've vacuumed the carpets upstairs.

Angelika321 · 14/09/2015 17:40

Can I add my method here.
Vacuum
Steam mop
Handheld dyson to finish off the corner crap.
Then a cleaning wipe for the odd smear you always miss.

Pengweng · 14/09/2015 17:43

I vacuum and then mop. My mum was still is a right weirdo and mops carpets after she has hoovered as she says it lifts off all the dust. Isn't that what the hoover does??

KoalaDownUnder · 14/09/2015 18:40

Wtf.

No.

Stop this insanity.

If you mop before you vacuum, all the solid bits of gunk get deposited into the mop bucket. Where they float around and get picked up by the mop. And then reapplied to a different part of the floor.

There would be hair fur fluff onion-skin bread-tags cobwebs EVERYWHERE

The vacuum is for picking up the loose crap leaving the dried-on SMEARS of dirt for the MOP.

THINK OF THE CHILDREN.

HoneyDragon · 14/09/2015 18:45

How fucking dirty do you let your floor get?!

OP posts:
OneDay103 · 14/09/2015 18:49

Sorry Honey but your method sounds like a slapdash half job. And actually creates more work. You mop the junk around ? Boak

Angelika that is my method as well.

KoalaDownUnder · 14/09/2015 18:54

How fucking dirty do you let your floor get?!

Grin Not very, tbh. Was exaggerating just a bit.
But my point still stands.Wink

SeamstressfromTreacleMineRoad · 14/09/2015 18:54

I'm just trying to get my head around the idea that there are lots and lots of you out there who both mop and vacuum (or vacuum and mop)... Two lots of work on one floor...... Shock

WorldsBiggestGrotbag · 14/09/2015 18:58

Seamstress if you just Hoover to don't get the smears/dirt and if you just mop you don't lift all the dust/fluff! I'm pretty laid back slovenly about cleaning but even I Hoover and mop. Then Hoover again!

WhatTheJeffHasGoneOnHere · 14/09/2015 19:06

I think everyone must have far more laminate than I do.

KoalaDownUnder · 14/09/2015 19:09

I don't have any laminate. My entire house is tiles/polished concrete.

WorldsBiggestGrotbag · 14/09/2015 19:10

WhatTheJeff our whole downstairs is laminate apart from the kitchen. I hate the stuff but a) it's a rented house and b) we have a dog and a toddler!

SheDoneAlreadyDoneHadHerses · 14/09/2015 19:17

Oh I'm a hoover-mop-dry(drink a brew)-hoover-leaveformonthsafterwards kinda gal.

Hoover up the bits, mop the tiles, then hoover up any stragglers.

squishee · 14/09/2015 19:17

Tiled floor here - yep, I mop FIRST, then use the vac once the floor has dried to get the clumped-together stragglers left behind. Easier IMHO.

Houseworkavoider · 14/09/2015 19:22

I'm going to try it honeys way.
I'm actually quite excited!

KoalaDownUnder · 14/09/2015 19:22

So ...where do we all stand on steam mops, then? (Don't have one but hoping to be convinced)

Narp · 14/09/2015 19:25

Mopping a floor that's got loads of cat hair etc on just makes a mess of the mop and spreads weird bits of clumped up grey stuff all over

YABU

Narp · 14/09/2015 19:25

Or what Koala said better than me

HoneyDragon · 14/09/2015 19:26

I have to sweep/vac first and last if dh has mowed the lawn Angry as he and the dog like to drag the clippings in.

Other than that mop first then vac is the proper

OP posts:
EponasWildDaughter · 14/09/2015 19:37

Good lordy no!

Hoover up all the bits thoroughly. ALL the bits mind you (looking at you DD3)(17) doing the edges properly with the corner tool.

Then when the floor is free of loose dirt you wash it and let it dry all shiny and nice.

And your mop stays bitless too.

The idea of sliding a wet cloth or mop around in a lot of dry bits makes me heave a bit.
