We are having a 7th birthday party for ds. I want to do temp tattoos as we have hired a hall and bouncy castle BUT I fancy trying my hand at glitter ones with stencils but dh says since I havnt used them before we should stick to normal transfers. I'm opening it up to mumsnet experience

Have both?

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 13/09/2015 21:10

Glitter, are you on glue?
(Always wanted to say that)
Why not have a practice?

NorbertDentressangle · 13/09/2015 21:12

You can buy metallic temporary tattoos which could be a compromise?

Fresh01 · 13/09/2015 21:12

Having had both at a school disco. The glitter ones take 3 times as long to do. Maybe do both.....

Osolea · 13/09/2015 21:22

Glitter ones are really easy to do, I did them for a charity thing once and only practiced a couple on myself. They do take a bit longer, but you could rope in some other people to help. I'd say it's worth buying stencils that will look good with just one or two colours to make it quicker and easier.

Temporary metallic ones hmmmmmm

If you do the glitter ones be prepared to find glitter in odd places for months. The glitter they use is finer than normal glitter and it gets everywhere.

Temporary glitter tattoos are great. Dd has had a couple and they last a couple of weeks even with hr showering, one was her shoulder, that lasted the longest.

Why would anyone choose to do anything with glitter?! I hate glitter - its the herpes of craft supplies.....u think u've got rid of it all then bam its all back like u never bothered plugging the hoover in at all Angry

Is it really, really naff to quote yourself on a thread? Let me be the first to give myself a Biscuit if it is, and sorry, but it is apt.

Because, I've just posted this on another thread:

This thread has reminded me of an ex-colleague and friend that I've lost touch with (and miss) who was VERY house proud (eg, she would tidy up her grass with scissors!!!!!!). She was also VERY forceful (which is why I loved her!) and I remember her striding into the office in a rage one day in December announcing how spiteful people were to send her christmas cards with glitter on them, because it dropped off the card and gave her more cleaning to do. She was quite a scary woman, but I ALWAYS gave her glittery cards after that, just to piss her off!

Reminds me of a conversation with DP Grin

DP: I've hoovered, why I am still finding glitter?
Me: it's glitter
DP: but I hoovered...
Me: it's glitter
DP: but I hoovered...
Me: it's glitter, you cannot kill it...it will not die...

What does your DS want?

TheHouseOnTheLane · 14/09/2015 02:00

Oh God do what you want! If you are the one doing the application, what has it got to do with DH?

Kitsandkids · 14/09/2015 07:00

I know I'll be a killjoy, but if the party is in term time I wouldn't do tattoos. The school might not like them and/or the other parents might not want their kids going to school with temp tattoos. I know the parents could just scrub them off but in my house my kids would be devastated if they got one at a party and I made them remove it straightaway.

Spartans · 14/09/2015 07:19

I was think the same as kits. Our primary doesn't care about temp tattoos but I know my friends does.

We went to a party yesterday that had face painting. The girl doing it was great, but took ages so the queue was really long some kids were queueing 50 minutes of a 2 hour party.

If I were you I would do both and expect parents who will be finding glitter all over their houses for the next year to retaliate at some point Grin
