To make a compliant about the pharmacist ?

Today in Morrisions - whilst buying fairly embarrasing personal products. My DD10 miss read the time on the clock. pharmastist jumpscin and says she should be able to tell the time at her age. I looked him and said ' well she has dyslexia and that can mean telling the time can be hard' and tried to get on with my purchace as tp be honest dont want to have to discuss my childs learning disablities with some random pharmastis while buying thrush cream in front of other customers! He then said that dylsixia shouldn't affect her ablity to learn to tell the time. I looked at him and said well actually it can giving him a paddington bear stare. He then - despite my daughters obvios discomfort - says So does she get help with that then. I just walked away after paying the cashier as He doesnt handle the momey. My daughter has spent the rest of the afternoon asking is she stupid and asking why the man was questioning me about her. AIBU to make a complaint ?

I think making a complaint would be an over-reaction and might make your child feel worse as she might see her difficulty as a bigger deal if you make such a fuss. And why is it relevant that you were buying thrush cream? You didn't need to reveal that piece of information but you chose to.

Not sure how the telling the time and your purchase of your items are connected? Is this because the pharmacist told you come back at x time? Do think a complaint might be an over reaction. Im dyslexic myself but never had a problem with time.

You didn't have to discuss your DD learning difficulties with this idiot. Don't know why you gsve him an explanation. I'd have just gave him that look!
Just to give you some consolation op my DD 16 and can't tell the time, same with a lot of her friends. I'd imagine a lot of children can't, wgast with digital clocks ect.

I think the fact she was buying something that's seen as embarrassing made it more awkward for the OP to stand there for longer than necessary answering questions which were frankly none of his business. I don't think I'd complain, though. Some people are just dicks.

I mean, I think that's why the thrush cream was mentioned, for us to get the picture that she really didn't feel like hanging around in the 1st place!

London - the telling the time had nothing to do with the pharmacist - my dd was telling me how long we had to finish our shopping as she knows they close at 4 on a Sunday - we try to 'do' lots of differnt clocks in as many different situations. And just because you dont have problems - doesnt mean no other dyslexics do - its a very recognised issue

Your child is going to be judged for her dyslexia for the rest of her life.

You can't protect her from that.

Op i know its an issue for dyslexics. I was lucky time wise. I still dont know my times table (anyone shown your dd the 9s and her hands) and still struggle with left and right (although it now clicked in my late 30s as im guessing right according to dh) but i was unsure how the time was connected to your order...

Wildstallions - I try to make her aware she will have issues and questions -but actually dont think it means that I have to let twats in proffesional possitions 'get away' with being rude

I'm not sure why he would need to know which part of the groin is effected.. The whole thing seems very odd.

Definatly the duty pharmacist - I have been buying the purple pakage morrisons own thrush cream for ds's rugby sweat related issues (hate even going on about it here!)for years. He kept asking if it was on the penis or in the groin and made movements on himself to show what he ment by groin. Then made me buy Caniston as the purple not suitable apparently. A man was sitting in a chair waiting right where I was talking to the guy. Hence my embarassment and not wanting to hang around. I then had to wait by till for the cashier as the pharmacist does not 'take money' - it was by the till the discussion about my daughter too place.

absolutely complain. my dd is 10 and dylexic and struggles massively telling the time.

I cannot at 56 use a digital clock. I am not dyslexic, but I do have dyscalculia, known simply as numerical dyslexia. It's really quite common.

Personally, I think the pharmacist does need to be told by someone that he overstepped the mark so YWNBU to bring this to the attention of whoever runs the pharmacy, whether Morrisons or a different franchise.

The pharmacist's opinion has nothing to do with what you were there for, it was (and is) none of their business whether your daughter can tell the time or not.

I remember a pharmacist embarrassing me once because they were talking to me about something private in the pharmacy (because I'd handed a prescription in to them for something) in front of other people. I made it pretty obvious I didn't want to talk but he went on and on giving me his own advice & opinion. It appears this is a common thing!!

Yes you should make a complaint.

People who work with the public need to know that it is not on to make derogatory comments about someone - whether it be learning difficulties, disabilities, appearance etc.

Do you mean to be so unprofessional? Sounds like a good Mumsnet response. I have read that telling the time can be a big issue for children and even adults with dyslexia. Dd1 has dyslexia too I would be very annoyed with the pharmacists comments.

I did complain on facebook and have recived a very reasonable reply - Thanks I will also store some of thease phrases to use if needed again.
