Hello. A relative has a special birthday coming up in early October and we'd like to book somewhere for the family to meet up, within approx 1.5 hour commute from Barnet in North London. There are 5 adults (2+2+1) and ten kids aged 4-15. We'd like to have a meal together, either in or out, and stay overnight (it would be a Saturday).

We'd love to do Center Parks but it's expensive, and we can't book it for only one night. It seems difficult to book cottages for one night too. We've looked at some hotels, but haven't found the ideal one yet - perhaps one with a swimming pool, but preferably lots of outside space too where they won't mind the kids running around and playing hide and seek etc.

Any suggestions? Obviously the cheaper the better, but so long as its good value it's a special enough birthday not to skimp too much.

If I go o London as a big group we always book The Grange St Paul's . It has rooms with 2 double beds and works out quite cheap. Lovely breakfast and restaurants and a pool, although it's quite small...not Olympic size.

Staff are always great. Stayed about 5 times
