Mil thinks it is. However is contains three veg (potato, leek and onion) and dairy for calcium.

That surely.means it isn't junk right? It has a lot of good stuff.

Just as an experiment I would like to suggest a new definition of junk food: live exclusively on the food item in question for a month and see what'll happen. I usually have a salad with some source of protein (fish, chicken, ham, boiled eggs etc) with it. I think if I lived exclusively on salad and grilled chicken, there would not be any negative health implications. What would happen if I lived on pizza/cheese and onion pasty for a month?

Note: I am not suggesting that living on any one food for a month is healthy. I also know that no one does this in real life. I'm suggesting this as a criterion for deciding whether something is or is not junk food.

To the person who said 'you need educated for the sake if your children'. Good god- better feeding your kids a cheese and onion pasty than exposing them to your lack of a grip on the language of this country!

And a Bounty Bar is health food. They sell coconut in Holland and Barratts, and chocolate and sugar are both plant based so it must be. Right?

Is this thread a joke? I am by no means a healthy eater but even I know that pasties and pizza are utter junk food. Loads of carbs, cheese and fat.

Well, it's not exactly a well balanced meal. Hardly any onion/leek, mostly cheese and fatty pastry. Would have lots of reds if on the traffic light system wouldn't it? Occasionally, no problem.

It's junk but it tastes sooooo good! Very good eaten on a freezing cold day mixed with a can of Heinz tomato soup! Just cut it into squares before you put the soup on top. Comfort food junkarama in a bowl! Smile

I don't think it's junk but it's not healthy either. I would define junk as being chemical or reconstituted. I don't eat pasties myself but if it was homemade and had good quality ingredients, I wouldn't call it junk.

Oh no. Why did this get bumped? Whatever it was had been deleted. Confused I thought it seemed familiar.

Highly processed food containing little nutrients is what I class as junk- eg angel delight, Macdonals, hotdogs, grey chicken nuggets, dairylee cheese slices, pot noodles, etc

However, a cheese and onion pasty made with wholesome ingredients(NOT from Greggs!) of flour, potato, cheese, onion and butter isn't. It may not be healthy for you to eat this as your staple diet, but very little is good for you in large amounts, so as part of a varied diet I can't see why it would be junk!

If it's on a plate with greens as a main meal, no it's not junk.

If it's being scoffed out of a bag walking down the street as a 'snack' Hmm, then yes, it's junk.

potatoes are a vegetable or a starchy food depending on who you ask but either way they are full of fibre vit b and potassium they also have vitamin c in them

my issue with a cheese and onion pasty is the fatty pastry

My issue with a cheese and onion pasty, is there's no meat in it.

Even though I know this, I still expect a meaty taste when I bite it Confused

Potatoes are veg, contain many hits and minerals.

They didn't include them in 5 a day as they knew many people would scoff chips...
