Child peeing in supermarket car park

DH and I were out shopping today and as we were getting DS out of the car and into his buggy, a family returned to their car parked just along from us having been shopping in the supermarket.

Cue one of the boys (around 7 or 8 years old) deciding to have a pee by the side of his car, actively encouraged by his mother as she loads her shopping and the other children into the car.

Is this normal and AIBU for being surprised at this? FWIW there is definitely a loo in the supermarket, and the only thing I can think is that perhaps the mother didn't want to have the hassle of taking him back in to use it.

My 2 year old weed in Aldo car park last week against the wheel, I might add - but he's 2 and I was mortified.

Well I haven't done this in a carpark but if we're walking home from school and halfway home ds starts jumping around saying he needs a wee I tell him to go up ahead and wee by a wall. My ds wee isn't really different then all the dogs wee everywhere.

YANBU, very unnecessary if there is a loo nearby. Really disgusting chavvy behaviour! I can't believe the child wouldn't be mortified weeing do publicly at that age and the parents should be ashamed.

Yeah, it's illegal, technically. But even at 7 I couldn't get exercised by it.

Well it's not ideal but if the mum had other kids and was packing the shopping in the car I dare say a discreet wee behind the car isn't the end of the world.

She probably couldn't face the hassle of getting all the kids back into the supermarket. It's not ideal, but quicker to go in the car park I guess.

I know I was held over several grates as a child. Maybe not at 7 or 8 though...

If girls/women have to wait, why is it ok for boys/men to urinate publicly? I don't think it is. (Exception for desperate toddlers).

My DS has weed by the side of the car hundreds of times. He has a chronic bladder problem which results in urgently needing to urinate. Not a big deal IMO.

DS has problems which are under investigation. If he needs to go he needs to go NOW. We don't all have perfect bladders, maybe her DS is one of those that doesn't.

I literally wouldn't even bat an eyelid if I saw this. Dogs wee everywhere, why is the wee of a 7 year old worse than dog wee?

I saw this in Mothercare car park.

I wouldn't have minded, but the mother pointed her child at MY car rather than her own.

YANBU OP, I've seen a toddler urinate on a pavement by a main road once but according to MN it was acceptable Grin

well if he needed to go, i dont see a problem. She probably had other kids, loads of shopping and couldnt take him. When i was little it was commonplace to see men urinating in public. Not that i agree with that but a child is different. When on holiday we had to do it frequently through Europe. We couldnt find a toilet and were miles away from anything. The problem was, getting our children to do it! They were bursting but didnt want to pee in outisde!!!

my 7 year old decided to do this whilst I was loading his brothers into the car from daycare. I was a bit stunned and just quietly told him it's not nice and he needs to ask to use the toilet next time

Yep. I think it's disgusting too. He's seven and there's a toilet nearby. YUK!

At what age will he realise it's not on or will he still be peeing whenever he feels the need at 14 or 18 or 25. Disgusting. (Lazy mother)

Also saw a boy of around seven or eight peeing at the side of the road this morning. In full view of everyone, no effort made to step into the trees. (Although he may have stepped in poo if another child had been in there earlier.) They were right next to the Fire Station where an open day was going on and judging by the stuff the family were carrying, I'd guess they had just left. Why do men think they can pee in public, surely they aren't made with smaller bladders, are they?

It's illegal, you should have called the police.

I'm guessing this is a joke.... I don't exactly condone this behaviour but wtf are the police going to do! Send round a squad car with blue lights flashing to apprehend the culprits before they leave?

I don't know, as he could have had a medical problem which meant he needed to wee urgently. If he did nit, than YANBU, it's not on.
