Child peeing in supermarket car park

Daffodil1210 · 05/09/2015 22:43

DH and I were out shopping today and as we were getting DS out of the car and into his buggy, a family returned to their car parked just along from us having been shopping in the supermarket.

Cue one of the boys (around 7 or 8 years old) deciding to have a pee by the side of his car, actively encouraged by his mother as she loads her shopping and the other children into the car.

Is this normal and AIBU for being surprised at this? FWIW there is definitely a loo in the supermarket, and the only thing I can think is that perhaps the mother didn't want to have the hassle of taking him back in to use it.

If he was actually 7 and they couldn't be arsed going back in, then Yanbu.
If like my child, he was tall and in fact several years younger than he looked, then Yabu to judge him if you wouldn't care if a preschool kid it. Or if there was a medical reason, Yabu.

Should of called the police, social services and started a live thread op while tweeting the dm with your best sad face.

quicklydecides · 06/09/2015 00:11

I think this is really funny.
When did you lose the ability to AVERT YOUR EYES??
A small child wees... Saving the parent the trouble of carting all the children back in to spend five minutes asking for the key to the usually yucky toilets, well done little boy.
It will have evaporated in as few minutes and dogs do it all the time.
I just don't get why you're upset.

quangotango · 06/09/2015 00:19

'call the police' ? because of a 7 year old doing a wee? come ON!

RealityCheque · 06/09/2015 00:22

I suspect that most of the posters that are outraged about this are the same ones that are quite happy for cats to shit (and pee) wherever they feel like!

BlackeyedSusan · 06/09/2015 00:27

ffs, that is why the porta potty was invented. no need to wee up the side of the car.

Hoplikeabunny · 06/09/2015 00:29

Illegal? Really?! Does anyone have any actual evidence of that, because I can't find any?

I still don't see how it's any worse than a dog weeing in public, and they do it all the time!

Even if it is illegal, no police officer is going to give a shit, they have plenty of more important things to deal with, and are already very stretched. Please don't waste their time reporting ridiculous things like this!

MaddyinaPaddy · 06/09/2015 01:05

Is it illegal if it is private property ie supermarket owned carpark?

Fatmomma99 · 06/09/2015 01:13

Thank goodness for the posts on page 2. I was reading page 1 and thinking "what IS the AIBU???". Kid needs to wee, kid wees. I don't get it, and thought it was just me!

Disgusting?

No. A child needs a wee.

SolidGoldBrass · 06/09/2015 01:14

Oh FFS get over yourself. The amount of rain we've had this week there would hardly have been any evidence of one child's pee after a few minutes and there are plenty of perfectly good reasons why they didn't go into the supermarket - the toilets might have been closed for cleaning or out of order, or the kid might have had the sort of urgency issues mentioned up thread. None of this is your business. Just be happy you have so little to worry about in your own life.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 06/09/2015 01:17

It's not illegal. 7 is below the criminal age of responsibility in the UK.

uppereastsidemom · 06/09/2015 01:45

Porta potties are rank. And a seven year old obviously is too big to use one. This is a bit gross and you would hope that a seven year old would be trained, but I have massive sympathy for his mum given that today my (I thought, but obviously not) toilet trained 2.5 year old not only weed on a fairground ride (mortifying, we left immediately Blush), but also pooed in her pants in the buggy on the way home. Sigh.

Tiptops · 06/09/2015 02:25

YANBU.

It isn't about the fact that dogs do it too, it's only a bit of wee etc. It's about teaching him basic manners and respect for others. It's horrible to see men weeing in public because they're too lazy to go to a toilet, or are incapable of holding their bladders, y'know, like us women have to. I'd rather not see other people relieving themselves in public, thanks.

A couple of weeks ago I was waiting for someone in a car park when a family got out this weird potty contraception. They faffed about with it, attaching a plastic bag for her to wee into, tying it all up and putting away again. The whole thing dragged on for about 10 minutes. Bizarrely, there is a McDonald's less than a minute walk away, and a hotel even closer Confused

Just why? Surely best to teach children that you use a toilet whenever possible. Going au natural is only for remote locations and desperate times!

uppereastsidemom · 06/09/2015 02:31

Totally agree with the weirdness of the plastic bag porta potties! I don't get them, surely the wee just spills everywhere...ew

Tiptops · 06/09/2015 02:34

Contraception Grin

Meant to say contraption, obviously.

Yes, upper I've never even heard of them before. Was very grim.

TheHouseOnTheLane · 06/09/2015 06:03

It's bloody awful in my opinion unless the child has a medical condition. It goes on and on as boys grow into men...pissing in corners where people walk.

NotAWhaleOmeletteInSight · 06/09/2015 07:17

It depends really if he weed at the front of the car - between spaces where no one walks, or alongside the car where the next unsuspecting space user is going to put their feet as they step out of their car.

OhWotIsItThisTime · 06/09/2015 07:31

It's not a big deal. Maybe he has bladder problems. Maybe his mum was in a hurry and couldn't be bothered to take him back in. It's only kiddy wee.

Though saying that, once I saw a woman holding a toddler over a bin on a busy high street. That was gross - piss went everywhere, over the mum and child - and was in full view of all passers-by.

DrTinkle · 06/09/2015 07:34

It's funny but you never see primary school (or older) girls peeing in the road do you? Maybe their bladders are different...

Artandco · 06/09/2015 07:39

It fine imo. I see girls do the same all the time.

We went for a walk in the woods recently with friends and all the children varying from 2-8 years and regardless of age went for a wee by a tree/ bush at some point , and a couple of adults also ( male and female). It was a long walk with no toilet available for miles ( was in woods around 5 hours)

It's no harder for a female to wee outside than male imo.

DrTinkle · 06/09/2015 07:43

Yes Art but they were in a supermarket car park, with a loo just a stroll away. Quite different from the depths of the woods, no?

SanityClause · 06/09/2015 07:43

I think, it's wrong to judge this particular case, as none of us really know the ins and outs. It could be that this child has a similar bladder problem to those mentioned above.

However, if there was no problem, she should have taken him to the loo in the supermarket, even if that was a PITA, as a 7yo is, in the main, old enough to learn that you wee in a loo, and you go when a loo is easily available (ie when you're all in the supermarket, not once you have all got out into the Carpark). If it was a PITA, she could explain this to him, at length, all the way to the supermarket, and back. Wink

Doing an alfresco wee should be seen as something to happen only if there are no other alternatives.

Eminybob · 06/09/2015 07:48

I would probably go Hmm but ultimately I suppose it's not too much of a problem. As has been said upthread, dogs wee anywhere and everywhere and no one bats an eyelid.

I'm not justifying this next paragraph at all, I think it's revolting, but when I was a kid in the 80's when we went to the beach and I needed a poo, my parents would dig a hole in the sand for me, rather than trek to the nearest loo. A little boy peeing in s car park is pretty tame in comparison.

Artandco · 06/09/2015 07:52

Dr - yes but you stated girls never wee outside, they do.

I can understand tbh. The mum probably had already asked and they said didn't need to, then decided they did. Then by this point she had ice cream in bags etc and booth stuff would melt if she packed all up in car, went back inside ( toilets never near door), and came back 20 mins later.

gingerdad · 06/09/2015 07:56

It does remind me of a friends three y/o who whilst dad was cutting the grass. The 3 y/o had a poo on the lawn. "Cause that's what dogs do Daddy".
