WIBU to rip up my carpet just before winter even though I can't afford a new one for a while?

Just moved into a new house where the previous owner had a dog and was a heavy smoker.

Nothing will shift the smell. It's embedded into everything. I just want to rip up the carpet and chuck it.

Is that a stupid idea?

What's underneath?

If the smell is that bad I'd have to rip it up too, do you have rugs?

Yup. The carpets have to go. Grim. The smell stays. It's ridiculous.

Get some nice rugs.

I think there's no other option I haven't checked underneath yet. I've a bad feeling it'll just be concrete and not gorgeous floorboards though.

Hire a rug doctor or rip it up put rugs down

Rug doctor is definitely worth a shot. Then you can save up and rip them out when the sun is shining again

Rug doctor is a waste of money. Take them out and find some scraps or rugs on the cheap.

We have got the grotty carpets from upstairs bedrooms in our kitchen while we save up for a floor. They are an improvement on the downstairs ones

In my experience it has saved a few carpets and a lot of money, over the years.
