BBC is homophobic for not allowing a same sex couple for strictly

I can't think of anyone that isn't homophobic from being offended by two guys dancing.

The BBC sounds very outdated by saying this is because its a "family show".

Seems to me that CJ (whoever he is) is being a little heterophobic. Or sexist. Or something. Perhaps he'd prefer a hedgehog, given what a pp said.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 06/09/2015 23:50

Hedgehogs only have little legs - I think they'd find it quite hard to do the foxtrot (now a fox on the other hand...).

samG76 · 07/09/2015 10:00

Lovelyfriend - so you seriously think that the Israelis support gay rights just to annoy the Palestinians. That's a very devious of them. Is that the same reason they have free trade unions?

LovelyFriend · 07/09/2015 10:19

Not to annoy the Palestinians sam no, but as a device to manipulate and gain international support despite their constant human rights abuse - for sure.

"Pinkwashing is a ...strategy to portray Israel as espousing liberal or progressive democratic values such as feminism, gay rights and multiculturalism, in order to distract from or discount Israel's systematic human rights abuses ..."

When Israel extends gay rights to include LBGTQ people in occupied territories, and expands feminism to Palestinian women I'll start to think they are genuine.

I'm certainly not alone: www.aljazeera.com/indepth/opinion/2014/08/against-pinkwashing-israel-201489104543430313.html

Helpmeoutofthemaze · 07/09/2015 10:26

I am soooooo confused by the op.

Do you know strictly is about dancing with a partner, not having sex with them Shock.

Sexuality is completely irrelevant.

Helpmeoutofthemaze · 07/09/2015 10:32

Strictly is so not a "family show". A family show would be perfectly fine with gay participants but less fine with the amount of nudity and dirty dancing. Not to mention less fine with married participants shagging eachother. Hmm.

samG76 · 07/09/2015 10:37

Lovely - sounds like total drivel to me. The Israelis helped to extend feminism to Palestinian women by opening universities in the West Bank and Gaza. As for LBGTQ people in the occupied territories, how would you expect the Israelis to support them, given that most of the population is under the control of the Palestine Authority or Hamas? Honour killings are a form of social control throughout the ME (except for Israeli Jews) - it seems tough to blame the Israelis ...

LovelyFriend · 07/09/2015 10:53

sam I really don't think this thread is the place for an Israel/Palestine debate, even if I did want to have one with you, which I don't. But I am perfectly entitled to think what I do, just as you are perfectly entitled to think its "total drivel".

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 07/09/2015 11:08

But it is perfectly fine with gay contestants. There have been quite a few, some of whom have done very well.

In high level dancesport you will find quite a few gay men, all of whom dance with women. I don't think it would have crossed half of their minds to dance with a man instead!

If you're serious about the sport you will want to dance with a member of the opposite sex, regardless of your sexual orientation. Yes, a g/g couple can be fun (especially at lower levels), and much better than not competing, but if men of suitable heights/abilities came along and offered to dance with them there are very few g/g couples that would choose to stick together IMO.

samG76 · 07/09/2015 11:08

Lovely - you were the one who managed to turn an example of Israeli tolerance into a stick to bash them with....

LovelyFriend · 07/09/2015 11:14
goawayalready · 07/09/2015 11:20

i dont see how they could judge a same sex couple the same as opposite sex couple wouldn't the lifts and everything be different? plus if it's a public vote they would just vote for the gay couple because its pc and nothing to do with the dancing (didn't john sargent quit because of a similar thing?)

i dont think we should mess about with strictly too much if we do it then becomes a political platform rather than an entertaining show

i still remember pop idol in the end it came down to vote gay or vote stutter nothing to do with will youngs or gareth gates talent

BadgersBum · 07/09/2015 11:39

Ooh he's proper desperate for a bit of publicity at the moment isn't he?

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 07/09/2015 13:13

Ah I see he has an autobiography out. That explains it all :)

ShortandSweeter · 07/09/2015 15:44

Neither. Just average pop lyrics.

80schild · 07/09/2015 21:53

Seriously this is ridiculous. The real reason is because most of the dances require a man and a woman because of the physiological differences (women lighter - can be lifted; men stronger - can lift).

If anyone tries to tell me that women can be just as strong then perhaps they could answer the question as to why there are so few women in the special forces? Why women only play 3 sets at Wimbledon? and why the fastest runner in the world is a man?

Once these answers are answered to my satisfaction then I might revise my view.

Mrsmorton · 07/09/2015 21:57

CJ has now declared that he might have murdered someone in the Netherlands on a bike, in a canal, whilst drunk. Not sure I have them the right way round, either way someone is after a bit of publicity.

Mrsjayy · 07/09/2015 22:01

Who is this guy Confused

OurBlanche · 07/09/2015 22:39

Not sure it would be murder, MrsM.

But it makes a better headline than the one they went with!

CrystalButterfly · 08/09/2015 00:03

I'm sure I read it was because it can give an unfair advantage, like two men who are strong wil be able to easily lift eachother where two women might not be able to.
Or two women who can move their hips better where two men might be stiff.
With the mixed couples you get both qualities.

goawayalready · 08/09/2015 09:57

perhaps they could have a gay version of strictly? that way they would be fair and equal?

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 08/09/2015 11:57

perhaps they could have a gay version of strictly?

I honestly cannot think of anything on telly that is camper gayer than Strictly. At least nothing that doesn't veer away from family towards the more adult side of entertainment or starts being less entertainment and more worthy educational content.

What Strictly does really well is feature a large proportion of gay people (a much larger percentage than the population average of gay people) without billing them as "gay people". They are just people who happen to be gay.

As soon as you start making it A Thing it stops being what it is which is very inclusive, deeply sexist, self-aware and wry entertainment.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 08/09/2015 12:21

You could have a same-sex Strictly I suppose.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 08/09/2015 12:31

There's no reason the participants have to be gay I mean. You'd struggle to get the people though I expect.
