As usual a group that I belong to are sorting out a Christmas meal now. I can understand that you might want to get a group booking sorted out now, and maybe you get some sort of early deal on it. But is it really necessary from the restaurant's point of view to have to choose the courses now?? It's making me feel queasy, and when the evening rolls around I can never remember my order anyway ...

It's pretty standard for this type of thing which is why I don't get involved with them.

It's September, you won't get early booking discounts now! That happens before Easter.

You're quite late IMO! Our works do has been booked since May and the menu choices sorted last month!

Do you mean you are being offered the menus so you can see what they are serving, and the prices?

Which is sensible as there's no point in the organiser booking a table to 20 on a certain date if everyone then says there's nothing they like on the menu or it's too expensive or whatever.

If you mean you need to commit to your choices now, I'd suggest that's the organiser from your work getting carried away. The restaurant are unlikely to need to know now. However , surely when you make your choices, the organiser just keeps a copy to bring along on the night, so everyone knows what they ordered?

Yanbu to not want to. However when restaurants and hotels are getting booked up.

They want you to order now, because when you wait and ask for orders a few weeks before, there is always a large chunk that doesn't and you have to spend time chasing them.

i kind of think Yabu, when you say picking a meal you won't be eating for a while makes you queasy. I don't get that at all.
