I can't stand her anti English stance, but at least one political leader is doing something for the refugees...

And all the people on my Facebook feed calling Nicola a saint are living in parts of Scotland where migrants will never be sent - remote, wild corners. Places which could easily absorb hundreds (.schools round these parts are NOT full) and there is space for housing and hotels for sale at knock down prices. Yet, they have no appreciation of the problems of overcrowding that lead some to want to limit immigration, or check people's stories before making them welcome.

I think, Nicola knows full well her offer is a drop in the ocean and her supporters will not question her because those migrants, even if sent to outer Inverness , or Barra, will swiftly move to where they will feel most comfortable - London, Manchester etc. So, a bit of a crap offer really.

I would welcome more people here- many more and from all parts of the world, but they won't want to come and, even if they start off here, they will soon leave.

You do know that you should have actually had an education at school courtesy of the SNP for your latter years at High School?

I truly hope things work out for you, but I think part of your education would be to look into politics a bit more and make your own mind up rather than maybe accepting the rhetoric. I hope that doesn't come across condescending as it's not meant to be. You may look into all that and decide the same as you feel now. Your post didn't really come across as something you felt yourself, it came across like something you'd copied form an SNP booklet - that's what trouble was alluding to.

trixymalixy · 04/09/2015 23:07

Have to say I'm quite relieved to have my thoughts on the SNP echoed by So many others. Sometimes I feel like the wee boy in the emperor's new clothes.

WankerDeAsalWipe · 04/09/2015 23:11

hee hee trixy and all on a thread started to say how wonderful NS was - it's strange the twists and turns life takes. :o

Roonerspism · 04/09/2015 23:12

YABVU. She is utterly untrustworthy. Why is this offer so late in the day? Because it is purely to make her look good.

Based on the SNP's record on education, they don't give a fuck about any kids

babyboomersrock · 04/09/2015 23:16

Just realised I missed a critical point in my de friending SNP person post- she is now one of the new MPs! she campaigned vociferously against woman's rights at Uni

Who is she, please? I don't trust any politicians but that is horrifying.

Hamiltoes · 04/09/2015 23:18

Haha, well unless there are SNP booklets flying around that are written about my personal life I don't really see the connection...

If I wanted to poster for the SNP I'd spout about their free prescriptions and frozen council taxes, but like I was trying to get accross in my original post- those things don't really matter to me in the slightest! I could probably afford to pay for scripts since they are rarely needed.

I can only really judge them for things that have personally affected me. I voted Lib Dem in the first gens and then SNP in the last one. I'd say I try to stay more informed than most my age in that I read reddit (although admittedly its extensively leftish) and news articles, as opposed to facebook before making up my opinions.

That said though, I can understand why many in my agegroup vote SNP and its completely for the anti-westminster reasons, which I don't myself agree with. But then you can see why a bunch of people who hit adulthood just as the local bakery were flogging "credit crunch lunches" and were being told we had no hope for a decent job, mortgage, credit etc would be slightly dissolutioned with a gov who think its our responsibilty to pay back these debts Hmm, and would naturally lean towards a party who are very against Tory-Westminster-Austerity. If you're 23, literally the only thing you've ever known for you're entire adult life has been austerity in the name of something that happened when you were a child. You can't see why a party who offers an alternative for that would be more than slightly appealing to that group of people?

Hamiltoes · 04/09/2015 23:22

And precisely why Corbyn is proving to be so popular south of the border!

tableanadchairs · 04/09/2015 23:26

Nicola Sturgeon has a face that l would never tire of slapping.

and l am Scottish Grin

QueenLaBeefah · 04/09/2015 23:30

Council tax freeze has helped the middle classes whilst local authorities crumble because of a lack of funding

Free prescriptions has resulted in people earning £70k not having to dip into their pocket.

WankerDeAsalWipe · 04/09/2015 23:31

See the frozen council tax and free prescriptions are things that I think are shite.

Why give free prescriptions to people who can afford to pay for them? as long as those who can't afford it get them free then stop wasting money that could go into other services.

Council Tax? I'd rather pay a bit more and retain things that the councils have had to cut like programmes for the disabled etc.

did I mention that they were gobshites?

WankerDeAsalWipe · 04/09/2015 23:32

Fairness doesn't mean treating everyone the same btw.

Summer23 · 04/09/2015 23:33

Yes op, despite reading all these negative posts as a Scot I'm happy she is First Minister. Reading derogatory comments about her appearance puts me off this site.

Stripeysocksarecool · 04/09/2015 23:39

Queen is right, all the free prescriptions and university and council tax freeze has done is make the better off even better off whilst resulting in cuts to services for the less well off. Not exactly anti austerity policies.

Ubik1 · 04/09/2015 23:40

This thing about 'overcrowding' with refugees.

If you think ANYWHERE in scotland is overcrowded go and spend some time in SE England.

Honestly - queing for 30 mins on the Kingston bridge ain't overcrowding.

Am now gong to bec night njghg

trixymalixy · 04/09/2015 23:41

Oh bloody hell, you think council tax freezes are a good thing? Really?!?! I'd quite happily pay more tax for better services. I nearly voted for the SNP when they were talking about an extra penny on income tax, whatever happened to that? I guess it wasn't a vote winner.

Hamiltoes · 04/09/2015 23:43

Totally agree re council tax, I would rather have the services and its one of my least favourite SNP policies- hence why I didn't mention it in relation to things that personally benefited me that apparently sounded like it came from a leaflet Hmm

And in two minds about the prescriptions. It would possibly cost more for a means tested scheme to be implemented, however the scheme as it currently stands with the added minor ailments is ridiculous and is lining the pockets of pharmacy owners. I'd have to read up on wether means testing would actually be worth it.

As with all parties though, you pick and choose the benefits and the negatives. I personally think the SNP are doing a good job for me.

Stripeysocksarecool · 04/09/2015 23:43

Summer, There is nothing negative in what anyone has said (apart perhaps from remarks about NS appearance).

Posters have been pointing out the reasons they don't like NS and the SNP, that is not negativity it is opinion.

trixymalixy · 04/09/2015 23:44

Summer out of all the posts on this thread there's been only a couple of derogatory posts about her appearance and they were pulled up about it. But please don't let reality stop the door hitting your backside on your way out.

WankerDeAsalWipe · 04/09/2015 23:46

You shit faced Ubik? ha ha :o

trixymalixy · 04/09/2015 23:48

Hamiltoes, I personally don't pick the party that would be best for me. That would probably be the Tories, who I will never ever vote for. I pick the party I think will be the best for Scotland as a whole.

Hamiltoes · 04/09/2015 23:48

There has been a lot negative posts about SNP supporters though, being cult like, brainwashed, not very clever etc.

Summer didn't say there was loads, a couple is more than enough to warrant being put off.

WankerDeAsalWipe · 04/09/2015 23:49

You don't need means testing Hamiltoes - you go back to the original system of self declaration. Yes there is a chance that people will abuse it but proportionally that's cheaper than setting up an elaborate system.

For example I self declared at the dentist today that I am not entitled to completely free treatment for myself but my children are - it's a tick box - who knows if they check.

Hamiltoes · 04/09/2015 23:50

And out of interest trixy who is that party?

WankerDeAsalWipe · 04/09/2015 23:53

true trixy - me too - personally I am probably better off financially under the tories too, but it isn't the kind of society I want to live in.

SNP were never on the left until they saw an opportunity to swipe votes - not blaming them, but technically the majority in the UK as a whole should probably be voting Lib Dem as all the other parties have shifted to the centre and that's where they were in the first place - Obv that is a simplification but you see what I mean.

Labour let the SNP empty their cupboard of ideology and use it as there own and left themselves with empty shelves and nothing to offer.
