I can't stand her anti English stance, but at least one political leader is doing something for the refugees...

She isn't doing anything. She has no power to do anything. It's grandstanding knowing everyone will think she is wonderful when she won't be called on to deliver.

SirChenjin · 04/09/2015 22:26

Less bias than The National. Read the article though...it's very good, and have a look about for more on their disciplinary code and views on dissenters. Scary stuff.

WankerDeAsalWipe · 04/09/2015 22:27

I've not had any Prosecco :( I'm not long back from the Scout pick up run and it feels too late to start now.

trixymalixy · 04/09/2015 22:27

Ubik, not paranoia unfortunately. The new standings orders state that any MP must "accept that no member shall within or outwith the parliament publicly criticise a group decision, policy or another member of the group".

JohnCusacksWife · 04/09/2015 22:29

I think the cult comparison has some validity. The SNP supporters I know are almost fanatical in their support of the party and I truly believe they would vote for them regardless of their actual performance. Scotland could be run into the ground and they'd still vote SNP. Because the SNP will alway find a way to blame everything on Westminster which only reinforces the prejudices of their supporters.

trixymalixy · 04/09/2015 22:31

It's never too late or early for prosecco!!!!

CuckooCalling · 04/09/2015 22:32

I think the chart is genuine and has a sample size of around 16,000 - which is obviously statistically valid.

Personal experience relates to uni friend who is now a new SNP who unfriended me because I was a No supporter. She, like a lot of SNP supporters, cannot distinguish between anti-Scottish (me apparently) and anti-SNP/independence. But she was always pretty thick anyway so I shouldn't really be surprised

Ubik1 · 04/09/2015 22:32

Oh god am too hammered for this now..will return to this interesting debate tomorrow Wine

WankerDeAsalWipe · 04/09/2015 22:34

Ah it is when you don't have any....:o

Although there is a cold Kopparberg in the fridge shouting my name....

Hamiltoes · 04/09/2015 22:36

Really wanker? I don't see the SNP as any worse for party lines than any other party.

Did you watch the C4 labour leader debate? Didn't catch it all but the bit I did see was three people desperately trying to say the same thing, using slightly different words!

I actually do quite like the SNP- I have a fabolous MP whose office is a stonesthrow from my home and he gets extremely involved in local issues. He is helping to spread the word about a fundraising event in the local town hall to send leftover camping equipment/ clothing out to refugees. Recently watched him on QT and he was very well spoken and reasoned. Aswell as what Ubik stated above, I suppose I'm thankful to the SNP for the work they did boosting apprenticeships accross Scotland as I managed to secure one, which has given me a great education and a job for life. My work hadn't taken on apprentices for years. I work in the Engineering sector and the SNP are certainly one of the keenest parties to make Scotland a technology leader in the green and renewables sector. The country definitely needs something like this to replace the pits and clyde.

Other things I can see, my whole area has been regenerated and there has been loads of new social housing, mid-market, shared ownership etc homes built. It was one of the worst in the city 5-10 years ago, a total dump with high rates of drug addiction, high rise flats, poverty and crime. I now rarely see antisocial behaviour and feel ALOT safer. I recently had to use the services of Police Scotland and their suport for victims of domestic abuse/ crime was excellent. There is clearly a drive going on at the moment to link up the services, within a week I was called by a victim support service and within 2 weeks the HV was out to check everything was OK. Could not fault Police Scotland in the slightest.

I could go on, but what I'm getting at here as that politics and parties are rarely as black and white as "brainwashed" and "cult". You may not know anyone who likes the SNP, or I think "at least half the population can't stand Nicola sturgeon and everything she stands for." was the term that was used, but where I come from in my area you would seriously struggle to find someone who didn't like the SNP and NS.

And thats most likely because the things that matter here are not really "how long I have to wait on the off chance I might end up in A&E in the next 5 years". (For ref BTW I have been in hosp for ext stay last year and it was great, bar the food, and the staff are clearly rushed of their poor feet). I find it quite disrespectful that anyone who votes SNP is merely "brainwashed" or has fallen for the "cult", perhaps people who vote SNP have just experienced a different side of life and therefor have different priorities and opinions than you do Hmm

CuckooCalling · 04/09/2015 22:37

Because the SNP will alway find a way to blame everything on Westminster which only reinforces the prejudices of their supporters

^^ spot on - blaming Westminster is the immortal get out of jail card the SNP are going to play - whether Scotland is independent or not. Immoral Teflon.

WankerDeAsalWipe · 04/09/2015 22:37

Cuckoo it is a day for unfriending. DS2 just had his first wake up call when he realised his friend is a total racist and decided he just doesn't want to be friends with someone with those views anymore.

JohnCusacksWife · 04/09/2015 22:38

I think being unfriended by an ardent Yesser is a badge of honour for a No voter!

WankerDeAsalWipe · 04/09/2015 22:41

ha ha hamiltoes, i truly hope that "job for life" thing works out for you...

I'm rubbish at unfriending - I opt for the cowardly unfollowing! But good on your son for de friending a racist - one of my friends liked a "Britiain First" post which I found shocking - but I'm not sure he fully realises what a nasty piece of work they are (and of their origins).

I'm finding this thread as a whole though very encouraging - though the SNP had a landslide at the election, it is still just over 50% of the country that supports them - and they, of course, gloss over that. It's good to hear that there are many people
Out there who see through the crap!

Hamiltoes · 04/09/2015 22:45

Wanker also done my fair share of defriends today, amazing how a picture of a dead toddler can cause so many closet racists to stretch their fingers Shock

WankerDeAsalWipe · 04/09/2015 22:46

Thanks Cuckoo, what really got to my son was not only the racist stuff (and some sexist stuff too) but that the mother of the child saying this is technically an immigrant being neither from the UK or Europe. He didn't see the irony of this cos his Mother isn't a muslim terrorist. Hmm

CuckooCalling · 04/09/2015 22:46

Just realised I missed a critical point in my de friending SNP person post- she is now one of the new MPs! she campaigned vociferously against woman's rights at Uni and I find it terrifying that someone like her can be elected. But that's the SNP bandwagon for you.....

Hamiltoes · 04/09/2015 22:47

Well, an education and skill set for life, if that makes it any better? Although the company has been around since the world wars so I'm crossing my fingers and toes.

And Troble sorry but you're comment has flown way over my head, can you elaborate.

WankerDeAsalWipe · 04/09/2015 22:48

True Hamiltoes but you need to take into account that a lot of what the SNP spouts is also racist or at least xenophobic.

WankerDeAsalWipe · 04/09/2015 22:51

Oh dear cuckoo :(

I had someone telling me the other day that they were so sad to lose their former MP - no idea what party - as they had been very active locally, lived in the area, raised money for charity, got really involved in local issues -they now have a new SNP MP and they've seen her on TV but hasn't done jack shit for the area at all - not interested it seems.

CuckooCalling · 04/09/2015 22:56

Well we can only hope that the next few years brings more accountability to the SNP and they have to answer to their fuck-ups like every other normal party has to. But has already been mentioned, EVERYTHING will be blamed on Westminster forever, and the supporters will fall for it.

WankerDeAsalWipe · 04/09/2015 22:59

How old are you Hamiltoes?

Hamiltoes · 04/09/2015 23:00

23 wipe.
