To hate that ex h feeds dd aldi squash that contains aspartame

Ellreejee · 02/09/2015 19:42

That really.

I've tried giving sainsburys stuff that is aspartame free but he keeps buying aldi own brand that has it.

What squash do people recommend? I'd like one xylitol or stevia without artificial anything or preservatives.

Get a grip .
The way your going on it's like he's feeding her dirty toilet water

Lurkedforever1 · 02/09/2015 20:41

Dd used to piss like a race horse on aspartame. And tbh I think sugar is better than sweetener anyway. Still, as long as I wasn't expected to do the toilet trips every 30 minutes it really wouldn't bother me for a few days a week so Yabu. Also it's irrelevant that it's aldi.
If you're that bothered ask him what his opinion is on giving Aldis sugar version is. But while I get to dictate my dd didn't get aspartame drinks, there's two of you, and short of evidence it's harming her you have to respect his choices.

psssst MNers, this isn't about squash...

goawayalready · 02/09/2015 20:48

to be honest i think its just a sugar rush and then crash he gets a bad head too dad (with nan and grandad) has them for two three hour visits a week and fills them up with all the crap they can including stuff that will upset the toddlers stomach so im finding it hard to potty train when he gets toddler diarrhea twice a week and he can't hold that in ive tried talking to them about it and all i get is your children are fussy and wont eat they eat everything i give them but not what they give them so they fry them some food (fried food upsets the toddlers tummy) ds1 wont really eat that so its on to the crisps then the sweets and cake and everything they can throw at them while letting them play on the electricals and watching tv ds1 wont eat when he is playing on electricals this is why i dont use them at tea time and the tv is off! im trying to take the higher ground but i want to smack him with a rock from a high place at the moment Grin

Aspartame has been shown to change the dna of rats.

Sallystyle · 02/09/2015 20:55

Aspartame is perfectly fine for humans.

It may upset certain people, just like tomatoes don't agree with everyone.

There is not one bit of scientific evidence to back up the danger rumours. Not one.

tobysmum77 · 02/09/2015 20:59

Didnt they feed them the equivalent of you drinking a whole tanker full of diet coke per day? If the same experiment had been done with many other things we consider to be 'safe' the rats would all be dead.

And in any case they are rats. Sugar causes all sorts of problems for people. And obviously plain water is best no issue with that but people like to drink other things.

SurlyCue · 03/09/2015 10:02

he was yammering on in disjointed sentences leaping from one subject to the next

Suspect that might be genetic...

BoskyCat · 03/09/2015 10:10

Aspartame has been shown to be pretty safe in lots of research. Nothing is great if you have too much of it. But she's not having much at all if she's there 2 days a week.

I do prefer to avoid artificial sweeteners, but it's not terrible. If this is the worst of your worries you're quite lucky! Let it goooooooooo etc.

i grew up on tartrazine, i think i am, i am, i am normal

kali110 · 03/09/2015 10:41

I hate the scaremongering on this.
No links found to cause harm.
Animal studies that were flawed yet people still carry on spreading this with no evidence.

goawayalready · 04/09/2015 00:13

thanks SurlyCue thought personal insults were not allowed on here guess i was wrong bye

00100001 · 04/09/2015 07:17

Where did the OP go?

LoveChickens · 04/09/2015 07:27

Pick your battles.

DontStopBelievin · 04/09/2015 08:10

If she just has it when she's with him, I really wouldn't sweat it and would let it go. It won't kill her, and it's only every now and again when with him.
It's not like ex is spoon feeding her crack. Hmm
(For what its worth, I don't usually get the aspartame stuff either as I prefer the more natural stuff but it won't harm every now and then!)
In the words of the Frozen peeps, let it gooooo.....

Catsize · 04/09/2015 08:42

I prefer to give my children sugar than the stuff they put in 'sugar free' products - from squash to Calpol.

The other day, I was exceptionally Mumsnet, bought lots of reduced blackcurrants, from Waitrose (no less), and made my own squash. Best ever. Oh, and this was whilst simultaneously preparing dinner and my work for the following day.

If only there were a bowing halo angel emoticon thingy...

OP, I am vegetarian. I respected my partner's decision that the children should eat meat. I hate watching them do it, but accept it is probably good for them. Give and take and all that...

MammaTJ · 04/09/2015 08:55

I am amazed you even know what brand of squash she has at your exes. I would not have had a clue when my DD was going to her Dads.

Did you send a camera in a teddy bear? Grin

Lemonfizzypop · 04/09/2015 09:10

Jeeeez mumsnet has given me such a paranoia about aspartame, I'm pregnant and have been drinking shitloads of robinsons no added sugar squash without a second thought but I've now stopped cos of all the (probably irrational) worry I now have about it!

MaddyinaPaddy · 04/09/2015 09:16

Dd used to piss like a race horse on aspartame.

You are sure that isn't the water diluting the squash!!

blibblobblub · 04/09/2015 09:20

Aren't you the same OP that was complaining about the conveyor belt being dirty? And the far-fetched story about the other woman at work? Both of which threads were deleted

Hmmmm. Hmm

BarbarianMum · 04/09/2015 09:22

This is why one should agree one's soft drink proclivities before committing to children. Also the fresh vs frozen peas debate. Hmm

SurlyCue · 04/09/2015 09:53

thanks SurlyCue thought personal insults were not allowed on here guess i was wrong bye

If there was an insult in my post then it was only the very same one you used about your own son. But i guess thats ok cause hes not on mumsnet Hmm bye

NeedsAsockamnesty · 04/09/2015 10:18

If children are thirsty then they will drink water

No some will, some won't
