to be having a nervous meltdown about my son starting secondary school

didnt sleep at all last night!! I know he,ll be ok but is anyone else going through the same ? Am I just being silly ?

My DS starts tomorrow and I feel and am acting outwardly calm but I keep having butterflies.

So you're not alone. I'm sure there are many of us. DS seems quite chilled about the while thing though.

I have found myself having maudlin moments when I think back to his baby days. Smile

My DS starts tomorrow, he's the only one from his primary school going to this particular high school so he won't know a soul.

He's cheerfully optimistic, I'm sick with nerves, mostly worrying about who he'll sit with to eat lunch, which I realise is ridiculous.

Deux- Yes that what Ive been finding as well. Where have all those years gone. Hes very chilled out about it whereas Im trying to be but failing...

ds is year 8 now, I think I held my breath all day on his first day in year 7. the relief when he came home smiling was enormous!

Me ! My stomach is churning but I'm doing my damndest to appear cheery and brisk

He is a going from a small village school to a one with 1500 pupils and I am scaring myself with thoughts of him being bullied etc as he is such a sensitive soul

I went through it last year with ds1 and now it's ds2's turnSad

Thank god I don't have any more children, I couldn't face it again.

It is stressful, such a big change. I know he will be fine, he's ready for the next step but the transition is stressful.

Ds1 took a long time to relax last year, he used to get so stressed about homework and was very anxious and obsessive. He's much more relaxed now and more chilled about going back. I'm just hoping ds2 settles a bit quicker.

wickedwax. Not ridiculous at all I think that as a parent you never stop worrying. I just keep trying to think that at last tomorrow its just going to be all the year 7 new starters and maybe I will sleep a bit better tonight

Me too - DS1 starts tomorrow. Am worrying about the most ridiculous things (have I got the right pens? etc....)

I have been trying not to go about it too much as DS is a bit of a worrier but went completely too far the other way and he thought he had another week to go, which came as a nasty shock to him yesterday

Will all be fine once we get started I am sure!

just to say. ds was fine, loved school, is independent and organised with stuff and homework etc.
BUT he was totally wiped out and exhausted by christmas, and needed lots of moral support and practical support form half term onwards, just because the change has been so tiring.

Thanks for all the replies on this one and at least I know Im not alone . Im sure we will all look back on this in a few weeks and let out a big sigh of relief . Well maybe a bit longer than a few weeks. I may have a few more grey hairs by then as well ! ha ha ha

Ds2 survived

My mum called this morning and made him cry! She only called to wish him luck but I think she went a bit overboard.

Still struggling with his tie, he couldn't redo it after pe but that was last lesson anyway. Overall he seemed positive about it.

Hope everyone else's dc's survived.

My DD is starting Uni on Tuesday, I feel exactly the same...it never ends.

DS loved his first day, made some new friends, didn't end up eating his lunch alone like billy no mates, has 2 lots of homework already Shock and is looking forward to tomorrow.

When Ds started secondary, the only thing that seemed to really worry him was getting a place on the bus! We were the last stop, with several miles still to go, and detentions for being late were commonplace. I would offer to take him, but that was even more embarrassing and stressful than a late mark/detention. So unbeknown to him I would lurk in the car in a side street (like bloody secret squirrel) from where I could see the stop, so that I could leap into action if he (and his mates) were left at the bus stop. It never actually happened and I gave up after a few weeks. He's in his final year at Uni now, so he survived the trauma of 'Big School' - they all do in the end.
