DP and I would love to go to Venice for a long weekend after our wedding next year.

Thing is, neither of us has ever been there before, wouldn't have the first clue as to where's best to stay - what is worth visiting and what to give a wide berth etc.

We don't have a set budget in mind - but we are not by any means rolling in it. So cheap and cheerful would be great if possible Grin

Are package holidays better? Or will booking each separately save ££'s?
What time of year is best to go? (We're thinking between Sept-Nov)

Any and all advice is much appreciated Smile

I spent my honeymoon in veince then into italy. We arrived by train which was magically going through the alps etc although the toilets on the train were not good we had a cabin and had beds made up for us. Once in veibce i Recommend the jewish quarter and theres amazing resturant there near a cake shop. Everyone eats outside. Whatever you do avoid eating in the food strip in the centre of veince as its poor food. (Tourist)

What about getting the train? It would cut into the time in Venice but you'd get the scenery on the way. Man in Seat 61 has all the info for doing it cheaply.
If you book via Loco2 you can add UK--> London tickets for very little moneyplus the rest of the trip.

Brilliant, thank you!

I didn't even know we could take the train - will definitely be looking into this.
