Is my mum right in thinking I am slovenly re school uniform?

My mum is despairing of me today. She came over whilst I was getting all the new clothes ready for school. She was very disapproving of me letting my primary school aged sons to school in brightly coloured socks/ character socks stating that children should be wearing standard black/grey socks in order to look smart. Is purchasing smart hosiery for school important when they are so young? It seems so dreary to force them to wear black/grey socks every day. They will be going back wearing angry birds, minions and monsters socks (they chose them themselves). Mum has always been a bit anal (she also can not understand why I refuse to iron underpants) but does she have a point here?

My dss have always worn grey socks to school, for two reasons:

  1. Their schools have specified them
  2. They make the gap less glaringly obvious when they inevitably shoot up two inches in a week and their trousers get too short...

Where we are the younger children the girls have to have white socks or black tights the boys have to have black or grey socks. The older schools they all have to have plain black socks or black tights for the girls.

DS's school does specify white (for girls) or grey/black.. though not everyone takes any notice and I assume dont have seperate school socks.

DS loves his long socks so does have grey ones but he also has a variation on these. He likes to mix and match them and currently has a green and pink sock on. He used to love the days of the week and mix them but the last lot were a mixture of coloures and that was going to far for him Grin

Your Mum is being a twat though. You are the mother and an adult...tell her to keep her nose out
