To be this annoyed at my selfish arsehole neighbours?

I live in a flat and a group of young people moved in below us about six weeks ago. Since then they've had parties on four of the Saturday nights. Loud music, shouting, singing in the back garden. It starts about 8pm and at least twice before has gone on till midday on the Sunday. I can't deal with it, my boyfriend works most Sundays and I work some, we can't work properly after getting little to no sleep.

Is there anything I can do about this? The police have been called out the last two times but it obviously doesn't stop them! I know it's a flat and noise is inevitable but even if it stopped at 2 or 3 we could get some sleep. It's like torture.

Do they rent? I'd try getting in touch with their landlord. Repeatedly.

I agree with Back - and I may be wrong but I'm sure you can also approach the letting agent? Have you said anything to them?

I think they probably do rent. How do I find out who the landlord is? (I say 'I', it's my boyfriend's flat so he'll have to do it).

We haven't spoken to them, it's quite intimidating and I'm worried they'd turn on us. I do wonder if a polite word would help but when the police have spoken to them twice I worry it would be pointless.

Is there a managing agent for the block of flats? Causing noise nuisance will be against the terms of the lease and they can get involved and if there's a subletting clause in the leasehold agreement even remove the permission to let the flat

Google the address and see if you can find an ad for it. Ask your neighbours. Call the big local agents. You should be able to find out from the land registry but might have to pay.

Keep calling the police about it. Call the noise dept (don't know what it's called!) at the council repeatedly. Call the agent every Monday, and again later in the week to follow up. Be a nuisance.

The landlord won't enjoy an official complaint because he will be obliged to declare it to the buyer's solicitor in the event of a sale. Make it clear to the agent that you'll go down the official route if necessary.

Get other neighbours onside.

This has been really helpful, thanks! If they're still going after midnight I'll ring 101 then get my boyfriend to get onto the housing officer (not sure what she does or if she covers private lets but it can't hurt) on Monday.

Depending upon where you are- my council has a team that work until 4 in the morning who come out and investigate this type of thing.

Call your council on Monday and ask if they offer and help with this type of thing. Most do.

If this turns into a long term problem (hope not!) then the council's environmental health team should be best placed to help over the police.

Assuming things haven't changed since I dealt with this a few years ago, the police normally only deal with it reactively by telling people to keep the noise down: the council have powers to deal with it permanently via a noise order, confiscating sound equipment etc.

They sound like utter twats, not a one-off event or people unaware that noise is travelling, so I'd go in hard and fast on this.
