To think that this is disgusting and offensive?

I like little signs and words around the home. I have quite a few, made from nicely decorated wooden letters ('soak' in the living room, 'relax' in the guest bedroom, kids names on their windowsills etc).

I went to a friends house today. She has a new sign too.
It's wooden letters above her loo spelling out a vulgar term for urine. She thought it was hilarious. I not so.

Am I boring or is it offensive? What would you think?

YY to the poster up thread who said this was a well timed hilarious thread after all the troublesomes lately!

RockerMummy184 · 21/08/2015 15:51

I can see the gifting of new letters going down a treat...
OP turns up with appropriate word,
Friend sees it as a sign that OP loves the 'piss' but doesn't want to ask outright if she can have it,
Being such a good friend gifts the 'piss' to OP,
Not wanting to upset or embarrass the friend OP would then surely be obliged to display 'piss' in the bathroom...

Katie2001 · 21/08/2015 15:52

While she's not looking why don't you just take the PISS?

WoeIsMee · 21/08/2015 15:56

Having read through the thread properly, some of these replies are truly vile. Mumsnet never used to be like this.

So swear words all around the house are cool then, are they?? In cross stitch!??

Never been so proud to be 'uncool.'

Am trying to think what kinds of wooden / decoupage signs fictional characters might have in their homes:

Christian Gray - Spank
Emma Bovary - Bored
Bridget Jones - Smoke / Weigh
The Weasleys' fireplace - Travel

Oh yes it fucking did.

LargeGoldCunt · 21/08/2015 16:01

I knew I recognised your name op, It was from your last wind up thread..

Gwan tell us who you are? Grin

Gymbunny1204 · 21/08/2015 16:02

Crap effort at business advertising?

BeggingYourPardon · 21/08/2015 16:02

I would have C UNT or any other swear word in my house because I'm vulgar and it's funny. I would however hide it if my 86 year old granny came round. I'm not a complete heathen. She would find ARSE funny though because you know, she does have a sense of humour.

Gymbunny1204 · 21/08/2015 16:04

Make the right choice?!! Ha ha ha ha ha

WienerDiva · 21/08/2015 16:06

It's not so much the word piss that's causing the uproar, but your reaction to it op.

If it was in a public loo then yes I'd agree, inappropriate. But in someone's own home!!! She could have a sex swing in the utility room and it would be none of anyone's business.

PHANTOMnamechanger · 21/08/2015 16:11

come on OP fess up, you're having us on. The real story is that your friend, seeing your loo was the only room without these naff cute letters you so adore, bought you a set that spell PISS for your WC and you are mortified at the etiquette conundrum of having to display it when she visits in case you forget to remove it when the vicar comes to tea?

BertieBotts · 21/08/2015 16:11

But she doesn't want a "nice" word. She wrote a swearword. She thinks it's funny.

Don't give her a passive aggressive gift. If she thinks the swearing version is funny then it's about 3000% likely that she doesn't like the "nice" versions. You don't tend to take the mick out of things that you like.

Bumbledumb · 21/08/2015 16:12

OP I suggest you gift her the letters O.F.F. so she knows how you much you appreciate her wit.

Pipbin · 21/08/2015 16:18

I want this tea towel from this site: mrcrypt.bigcartel.com

The last hilarious thread!

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 21/08/2015 16:21

Have you got mums net confused with net mums, OP?!

This the site that has a sweary thread and doesn't sensor words. Admittedly I've not been a member long but I've been under the impression swearing was allowed.

Your reluctance to even say piss calling it a vulgar name for urine is likely to make a lot of people laugh which is why you've got the rude words as a reaction. And seriously no it's not offencive and if I was your friend and you gave me some twee little pleasant decoupage letters I'd frankly tell you to get a fucking since of humour!

I don't see many who take your point of view most are taking the piss (sorry Michael) out of you!

blibblobblub · 21/08/2015 16:21

Omg Pipbin I need that tea towel so I can repeatedly flick DH with it, maybe in the face

Pedestriana · 21/08/2015 16:22

Did you know an anagram of WoeIsMee
is 'E mo' wee

I have many of these inappropriate mugs/teatowels/signs on my pinterest boards. One day I'll have them at home too.

MrsTerryPratchett · 21/08/2015 16:23

I rather suspect that your SOAK would be found in the lounge or kitchen rearranged as KAOS, especially if she read Terry Pratchett. I do hope she does! Awww Bogey that made me smile. I think the 'piss' friend is most probably a SirTP reader.

UnsolvedMystery · 21/08/2015 16:24

Thank you for posting OP. This thread is hilarious!

coffeeisnectar · 21/08/2015 16:37

Yes this thread is still giving. Utterly fabulous!

TheCatsMother99 · 21/08/2015 16:42

This has GOT to be a reverse or joke thread... Surely no one thinks it actually acceptable to redecorate (in terms of finishing touches) their friends house because they don't like the ornaments they'd chosen.

FatherReboolaConundrum · 21/08/2015 16:49

OP, you should give her both 'soak' and 'relax' so she can use the letters to replace 'piss' with alternating status updates: 'Arse OK' or 'Lax arse', depending what she's been eating.

Obviously a wind-up thread but don't care

Icimoi · 21/08/2015 16:49

I would hate for my 6 year old to go in and read it, and I'm sure it can't be teaching her children good vocabulary.

Trust me, unless you are educating your 6 year old at home (probably with a governess) s/he already knows worse words than this.

Why would you put the word "Soak" in a bathroom anyway? Lots of people prefer showers, and there are plenty of other things that you do in a bathroom. To be logical, you should have the place covered in signs like Wash, Brush, Shave, Scrub, Rinse, Exfoliate, Depilate, Dye, Pluck, Cut, Dry, Wipe, etc etc.
