Suggested guardian healthy week's menu.
I mean, evidently some of the suggestions are perfectly sensible (porridge with banana), and individually, there's nothing daft about any given recipe. But taken as a whole, could anyone design a more cliched guardian-reader-menu . . . Where do you even buy tilapia . . . ?

goodasitgets · 20/08/2015 17:46

It's just white fish. So any supermarket

BeautifulBatman · 20/08/2015 17:46

To be fair, you can buy tilapia from the morrisons fish counter so I'm sure it's not that hard to find elsewhere....

JustMeOverHere · 20/08/2015 17:47

I've bought Tilapia in Asda before now. It's truly not worth it.

FatherReboolaConundrum · 20/08/2015 17:47

Tesco, Asda or Sainsbury's. It's not exactly an unusual fish these days.

Takver · 20/08/2015 17:48

I stand educated Grin To be fair I only ever buy fish from our local fish seller and that's what they catch - not many tilapia in the sea round here, I suspect!

I've seen it in fish counters at supermarkets.

It's a perfectly achievable menu

cleanindahouse · 20/08/2015 17:58

I'm having egg and chips for tea tonight. That menu is alien to me.

InTheBox · 20/08/2015 18:01

Actually OP you do have a point. I've just nabbed this of Twitter it was from the Guardian food section. I particularly like "even broccoli"

to think this is a ^ridiculous^ list of meals
eddiemairswife · 20/08/2015 18:04

I've never heard of tilapia. Many of the items were a complete mystery to me and I've been a Guardian reader since before most of you were born.

Dynomite · 20/08/2015 18:04

Yup, perfectly achievable menu, quite similar to the dinners we eat actually. I have 2 objections to it though. No1 is that the ingredients are on the expensive side, not very useful suggestions for someone on a budget. No2 the breakfasts are really small, I'd be starving by 10.30 (I normally have breakfast at 7).

Fluffyears · 20/08/2015 18:08

All of that just seems very unappetising. I know the diabetes epidemic is ticking time bomb but who eats like this?

Gileswithachainsaw · 20/08/2015 18:10

I love lentil dal Blush

lentil/sweet potato soups and curries.

mmmm

vestandknickers · 20/08/2015 18:11

Yuck. I hate salmon but it seems to be served up over and over again!

TPel · 20/08/2015 18:14

IntheBox that is very funny.

FishOn · 20/08/2015 18:14

Actually that's a really nice menu I think. We eat a lot of things like that.

I've printed it for some meal planning inspiration for next week Blush

Tilapia's really common here (Canada)

Ilovecrapcrafts · 20/08/2015 18:17

It's fine menu wise but I'm surprised it's 2000 calories. I track my calories on my fitness pal and seem to have more food than that for 1600

AdoraBell · 20/08/2015 18:18

Looks sensible to me, might even nick a few ideas.

ceeveebee · 20/08/2015 18:19

That's actually fairly similar to what we eat here except we have more red meat

NuggetofPurestGreen · 20/08/2015 18:20

I don't think that's 2000 calories a day (leaving aside the fact that 2000 calories isn't accurate for many people). Looks like about 1200 calories to me at a quick glance.

Ineedtimeoff · 20/08/2015 18:21

Sounds fantastic but realistically who has time to have a cooked lunch like that? I know that I eat on the run, often just grabbing what I can. Even on the days when I'm organised enough to take lunch with me to work there's no time to actually eat it! Surely I'm not the only one....

NuggetofPurestGreen · 20/08/2015 18:21

x post Ilovecrap

SuburbanRhonda · 20/08/2015 18:22

No cheese?

Shock
NuggetofPurestGreen · 20/08/2015 18:22

You'd just have to have the tomato soup everyday ineed Grin

winchester1 · 20/08/2015 18:22

I got as far as 2000 cals a day and stopped reading - not many women need anything like that many cals so I guess its written for a man, which I'm not.

According to various cal counting sites I need around 1400 cals a day (a bit more when I exercise).

Oysterbabe · 20/08/2015 18:25

Aside from the lunches (tend to just have a sandwich) it wouldn't be unusual for me to have any of that. I love lentils.
