Hen party dilemma

One of my friends is getting married within the next year.

A few weeks back I recieved an email about her hen, which is being organised by her bridesmaids. It features going to see a male strip act.

My problem is this. If my partner was going to see a female strip act, I would be very unhappy. Not because of jealousy, but because I fundementally disagree with women being seen as 'objects'. I would not prevent him from going, but my opinion would be made clear. So it feels hypocritical of me to go, and I feel uncomfortable with the idea anyway. There is no way to attend the rest of the hen without attending this, but the bride is a good friend.

So what should I do? Help!

This
would rather chew off my own arm than watch an oily chap flop his sausage about'?

Just tell the organiser that.
Is it something the bride would want? If it is, then fine, but if you think not, then I'd also say that too. I'd have no qualms about saying "No thanks, not my cup of tea" though, whatever the occasion.

I went to a strip show for my hen. I would have said it was absolutely not my thing and very tacky and would never have chosen it in a million years!

I had a bloody brilliant night, it was so funny. Yes it was tacky but it was meant to be!

Anyway, just say you will meet them afterwards.

I think male strippers (in my limited experience) are VERY different to female strippers.

Female strippers are there to get men off. Make strippers are mainly funny/burlesque and probably the least sexy thing you will ever see.

wibbleywee · 21/08/2015 03:39

You could just lighten up and go but play on your phone or hang around at the bar when the show is on, an hour or so out of an entire day surely isn't such a big deal?!

Bunbaker · 21/08/2015 07:19

I wouldn't want to "lighten up" for a male stripper. I would just say, "sorry, this just isn't my thing"

wibbleywee · 21/08/2015 07:46

I just dont see the point in being awkward, its hard enough to organise the logistics for a big group without people wanting to go off on their own for part of the night due to some issue with a stripper, its really not that big a deal surely!!

PurpleWithRed · 21/08/2015 08:04

Yuk. Is the stag arranging a female stripper for their party? How does the bride feel about that?

Bunbaker · 21/08/2015 08:09

"its hard enough to organise the logistics for a big group"

I agree, but organising something as contentious as a male stripper shows that the organiser hasn't given it much though. Given the options available for a hen night I know most of my friends would simply not go if it was a male stripper.

"its really not that big a deal surely!!"

Clearly it is for the OP.

The important thing is, to be clear now that you aren't going (if that's what you decide) so she can book numbers accordingly - or not book if it's the same reply from lots of people. What's hugely frustrating when you are trying to arrange anything is when people don't reply / don't reply in plenty of time.

noiwontstoptalking · 21/08/2015 23:10

I would politely decline the Hen.

I wouldn't go to see a strip act personally.

It is very sad that women need to go and see male strippers especially when the bride is getting married to the men she is supposed to love.. This only gives men the idea that it is ok to see female strippers whether they are single , in relationship or married. i am single and just met a lovely guy and i would never disespect my Husband to be in this way. i think that girls that see male strippers are very insecure and not pretty and not happy or in loving relationships. There is much better things to do and all of this is so tacky. UGHHHH
