As a couple they are starting to grate.

Is it too early to focus on them?

OP posts:

Magaly true nothing to leech from - but they certainly use their 'position' to conjure up money making ops.

Sansarya · 18/08/2015 12:23

No, the point the previous poster was making was that they've not been airbrushed out. They are very very prominent. I've got nothing against Carole and Michael Middleton, who have worked hard to establish a successful business and think the taunts about her more humble beginnings as BA cabin crew are despicable. But Pippa and James seem to have cashed in on their sister's fame - her book and columns didn't seem to show much talent as a writer and as for him, personalised marshmallows?? Really!

SuperFlyHigh · 18/08/2015 12:25

Sansarya to be fair to Wills - because he's the heir I suppose they want the inlaws to be more included generally and not airbrushed out. Harry's future wife's family will probably be the same - included generally.

The rest of them as they're not as close in line to the throne maybe there wasn't such interest warranted from both them or indeed British press (though there was the occasional news story).

SuperFlyHigh · 18/08/2015 12:27

Sansarya you have to admit there was 'trouble' when the Middletons' business was unnecessarily hawking 'royal' and 'royal baby' themed items on their website. now removed. I do think Carole has a tendency to like the limelight her DH not so much.

Sansarya · 18/08/2015 12:29

Yes, he always looks a bit embarrassed doesn't he?

MagalyMaman · 18/08/2015 12:46

So posters who say nasty things about the royals reject the label ''jealous'' if it's pitched back to them? In that case it's just plain nastiness.

On this thread I've read amongst other vile off-the-tongue style snippets of unpleasantness that Beatrice and Eugenie are the ugly sisters. Beatrice and Eugenie aren't entrants in a beauty competition and they're not claiming to be beautiful. Yet, they're mocked precisely for not being beautiful (although I think they are both very attractive). At a very young age they took slack from the media for not being pencil slim.

LaurieMarlow · 18/08/2015 12:54

I do think Carole has a tendency to like the limelight her DH not so much

Do you have a single shred of evidence to back up that statement.

I'm not sure about the other Middleton siblings cashing in on Kate's success. I'd say that James has benefitted hugely from his parents' endeavours. And I doubt Pippa's long term plan was ever anything other than 'marry someone rich & live extremely privileged life'. Which again, her parents facilitated by enrolling her in Marlborough.

How do you know that? They look like a normal middle-aged British couple in that she's glamorous and he's nice-looking but ordinary.

Same as Charles and Camilla actually, though the Middletons are better looking and better dressed.

British men tend to prefer to look ordinary. They don't do suede loafers with no socks and pastel cashmere sweaters knotted casually over their shoulders.

That doesn't necessarily mean they're self-effacing.

Sansarya · 18/08/2015 13:17

Could Kate be depressed?

Interesting point, although I wouldn't want to speculate about her mental health. Incidentally the Crown Princess of Japan is rarely seen in public due to various MH issues but her husband has spoken openly about it. If she is suffering from PND then I'm sure the Palace would do the same.

SuperFlyHigh · 18/08/2015 13:25

Carole's always being photographed out and about. The DH looks embarrassed by attention. That's just the impression I get.

and yes I do think both Middleton siblings tend to use their new found fame and cachet of their sister marrying into the RF to cash in on life. Pippa was all set to be interviewed in USA on a talk show before apparently Kate vetoed it... would the Americans really be interested in her cooking columns/books/marrying a rich person?!

MagalyMaman · 18/08/2015 13:29

It's possible she feels a bit caged. She literally can't move without an analyis in the papers afterwards, and they always give everything the most negative interpretation possible.

ajandjjmum · 18/08/2015 13:29

Really the siblings can't win. If they get some work (Pippa from the Waitrose mag) people grouch that she wouldn't get it with the contacts, if she doesn't work, she's lazy. Same with the brother - marshmallows don't seem a great idea to me, but it's his idea, his (family) money, his time. Plenty of people have bad ideas that fizzle out, but he's slated because he happens to be Kate's brother.

DaysAreWhereWeLive · 18/08/2015 13:31

I don't particularly care about the sums of money involved - although obviously I'm not happy about it.

It's more the principle of the thing. Nobody in this country should be better than anyone else, whether that's down to who their parents are or who they married. Nobody. There is no sensible justification for such a system to exist in this century, it's absolutely time for it all to come to an end.

LaurieMarlow · 18/08/2015 13:34

Carole's always being photographed out and about. The DH looks embarrassed by attention. That's just the impression I get

So Carole looks more at ease with herself than her husband and she likes to get out of the house?!?!?!?!

Jeez, that's your basis for saying she 'likes the limelight'

I think you need to question the leaps and judgements you are making on no evidence whatsoever.

SuperFlyHigh · 18/08/2015 13:56

Pippa does seem to have done work that's 'writing' or party planning though.

*Laurie& - Hello Carole! Grin

SuperFlyHigh · 18/08/2015 14:00

oh my apologies Laurie when Kate was getting married etc Carole was always being papped. She doesn't seem to shy away from it.

Sophie Wessex's mum - papped?! don't think so...

even the Queen isn't happy with the Middletons' behaviour:-

LaurieMarlow · 18/08/2015 14:09

Hmm at SuperFlyHigh's sophisticated arguing style

There's no little press interest in Sophie Wessex, let alone Sophie Wessex's Mum. The paps couldn't be arsed - it's just not lucrative. Kate and Carole are a whole other kettle of fish.

That article's all about James

SuperFlyHigh · 18/08/2015 14:19

Laurie

Sophie's mother has now sadly died. But I think she wasn't pushing herself into every newspaper she could and I think shied away from publicity. Also her husband was a car tyre salesman I think.

Actually wasn't Sophie Wessex the one who was caught speaking to the fake Sheikh?! ah yes - so that discounts that theory there was little press interest there. Confused After she was caught out doing that I'm sure she was warned as an ex PR exec (I think) not to do that again...

I've seen a plethora of pics of Pippa doing various bits. From racing around with French playboys to workouts focused on her bum. She hardly bats the camera away now does she?

and AGAIN - she was also all set to do a USA interview until she was warned off it by Kate/the royals.

SuperFlyHigh · 18/08/2015 14:22

also Laurie if you read the article says the Queen is furious so not just about James.

*She is furious. Queen Elizabeth is the one who is frustrated with how the Middletons seem to moan about the royals all the time. She thinks its tacky," an insider asserted. “The queen feels angry and let down.”

According to the magazine, the queen has even demanded Kate speak to her family about her concerns. “She’s told Kate to warn them not to talk about the royals or Kate in any other interviews ever again,” said the source.*

LaurieMarlow · 18/08/2015 16:32

SFH are you arguing that Sophie Wessex attracts a similar degree of press attention (generally speaking) as Kate Middleton?

SuperFlyHigh · 18/08/2015 16:35

Laurie she did until she messed up with the Fake Sheikh... so yes I am.

If she hadn't messed up she'd probably have a certain amount of media interest but of course Kate as a relative newcomer will attract more media attention.

MitzyLeFrouf · 18/08/2015 16:37

Was there some hoopla back in the mists of time over Sophie Wessex flashing her bosoms? Or am I imagining that?

LaurieMarlow · 18/08/2015 16:38

Well we'll have to fundamentally disagree on that point.

Sansarya · 18/08/2015 16:47

Mitzy that does ring a bell. I think it was an ex-boyfriend who leaked a topless photo of her from her pre beard Edward days.
