To think MNer's are being very mean

This past week has seen, in my opinion an increase in vitriol and negativity toward other members. Is my perception incorrect or have others noticed this?

I have to grit my teeth when I see the word "mean". It always strikes me as a word you grow out of using after the age of 10.

I agree that on MN it is 'allowable' for people to be very rude or aggressive towards a poster they disagree with.

I find this very sad, and unnecessary, as a way of communicating. Reporting this behaviour doesn't help. Posts are only removed if they are blatantly out of order - there is a huge amount of vitriol that goes under the MN radar.

I think that most often it is because the person behaving that way doesn't have the emotional maturity to accept that others have valid points of view different from their own.

I would like to see MN come down more heavily on rudeness.

It's difficult though redskirt because one person's 'rudeness' is another person's honesty.

I've seen lots of people being rude 'in the name of honesty' and thought no you're not 'just being honest', you're being a rude twat.

But equally I've seen people being called rude, simply because they think the OP is BU, or because they don't agree with them.

You really have to not care that a total stranger on the internet has been rude to you. They don't know you, you don't know them, you have your beliefs and opinions and they have theirs.

It's all forgotten very quickly on the whole once the thread fizzles.
