This past week has seen, in my opinion an increase in vitriol and negativity toward other members. Is my perception incorrect or have others noticed this?

OP posts:
usualsuspect333 · 16/08/2015 21:25

The OP thinks he's funny. He's really not.

ThatBloodyWoman · 16/08/2015 21:26

I dunno,I kind of like a thread that gets a bit gritty, and you can get your teeth into.
Especially if I've been on the Wine

Whiskwarrior · 16/08/2015 21:50

I don't understand how he can talk about 'the past week' when he's been here less than a week.

Confused
tsonlyme · 16/08/2015 21:53

Two thirds of the way through the summer holidays, people are getting tetchy. Not that I've noticed it particularly.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 16/08/2015 22:11

Worra, I was thinking the same thing. There's been about half a dozen threads that seem to have gone down the pan after the first few posters got inexplicably grumpy and took the OP in the wrong way. Threads that might have gone completely differently at any other time.

Nothing really reportable though, and nothing like what I'm guessing the OP is suggesting. It's one of those phases the site seems to go through occasionally.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 16/08/2015 22:13

steaming your fanjo? tell me more Christina

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 16/08/2015 22:16

what is "AS" MaryZ?

I've noticed a lot of French speaking wankeriness. but I was actually asking for it, so no harm done

Bof

HoneyDragon · 16/08/2015 22:16

What SDTG said with brilliant shiny bells on.

We've had a higher influx than normal of posters telling us what a shower of bastards we are too of late.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 16/08/2015 22:17

are we bastards now? since when? thus is confusing. I thought we were arsebiscuits
Confused

AwfulBeryl · 16/08/2015 22:28

Leave us we are Bastards Wink

IPityThePontipines · 16/08/2015 22:29

I think now on some threads people are better at pointing out someone being ludicrously unpleasant, but it's a shame that people make such unpleasant posts in the first place.

To use an example, why would you go on a thread about caravan holidays to sneer about caravans?

Then there are the likes of the "thirsty" thread which made me concerned about the state of society.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 16/08/2015 22:31

I'm expecting the "AIBU to ask why you all have to swear so much?" twin thread to appear any moment now

come on, you know you fucking want to!

AwfulBeryl · 16/08/2015 22:42

I love those kind of threads because you're guaranteed to learn some really good new swear words.

daisychain01 · 16/08/2015 22:42

It's best to walk away from the computer if someone is being a GF.

My limit is two goady comments then I'm out, otherwise it becomes a negative slanging match which isn't good for the blood pressure. Most of the time the person hasn't bothered to read the comment and just makes stuff up. Happened to me twice this week so YANBU Martin it must be summut to do with the holidays.

sandycove · 16/08/2015 22:48

Sometimes a see a perfectly reasonable AIBU and think "well there won't be any fallout with that one, everything seems so reasonable", then it suddenly seems they are being unreasonable and everything gets nasty. I can't understand why some have to be so nasty to get their point across.

daisychain01 · 16/08/2015 22:50

pjontipines that "thirsty" thread was the most offensive thread I have ever known and was one of the goadiest.

Even when people were trying to explain they needed to drink for health reasons they were slagged off for the words they used, and accused of "adult suckling". What kind of society do we live in makes people so intolerant to fellow human beings.

CloserToFiftyThanTwenty · 16/08/2015 22:55

I think everything will be better once term starts again

Flowers for Siri

IPityThePontipines · 16/08/2015 22:58

Daisy - yes, even someone putting a bottle of water on their desk was "aggressive marking of territory" or something bizarre. The thread was awash with so much rage, I worried about the mental state of some of the people posting on it (and hoped I didn't live anywhere near them).

As for the "suckling", there are a definite subset of posters on here who have issues around women eating and drinking, hence all the fat bashing posts, competitive starvation/food policing etc.

CuttedUpPear · 16/08/2015 23:06

The only thing I've noticed OP is you popping up all over the place making generalisations on other people's threads.

And starting some goady ones of your own.

Aren't there any male interest websites that you find more acceptable for your purposes?

bumbleymummy · 16/08/2015 23:11

There are some mean MNers who think it is funny/clever to pile on someone and try to tear them apart or drive them off a thread because they don't agree with them. It's pretty horrible to see or experience but there are some lovely MNers about too so it's worth sticking around for them. :)

Sparklingbrook · 16/08/2015 23:16

Hide thread is a very underused function. You don't have to comment on any thread. Hide topics and pick your threads carefully. I have hidden threads after commenting because some posters just never give up.

If you post stuff on the internet people might not agree with you. Shock Grin

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 16/08/2015 23:16

you are wrong SB
