to take a new job knowing that we'd like to TTC soon?

Obviously I am aware of the fact that it might take us a while anyway, that you have the legal right to get pregnant whenever you want, and the risk of them getting rid of you for some spurious reason before you've been there for 2 years. I've also looked at the number of weeks for which you'd need to be employed before you were entitled to SMP etc.

Practicalities aside, though, I feel very guilty - I suspect it's this kind of thing that disadvantages women in the workplace generally. I'd be keen to stay with this firm for a very long time so I guess it all balances out over the duration of a career, but it is still likely to be a bit awkward. In all honesty, what's the minimum amount of time you think is decent in a new job before you go on maternity leave? A year? Two? More?

Why should you feel guilty? Do you think your dh/dp would feel equally guilty?

I once got pregnant in my first week in a new job. I had exactly (and I mean exactly) the right amount of service for SMP. It was a bit embarrassing telling my boss but hey, that's how it goes sometimes. We'd started trying to conceive 10 months previously.

TTC is just having sex without contraception.

Your contraceptive arrangements have nothing to do with your work.

Don't put your life/career on hold for something that isn't in your control. You might get pg instantly, or it could take a while. Fertility isn't a switch, although people often talk like it is.

You want to stay for a while, so YANBU. Good luck with the new job & ttc!

Never put of TTC, you never know how long it'll take you! Just take the job while TTC and don't worry about it.
