...to ask a question about who buys your sanpro?

TAAT, sort of.

Posters were saying that lots of men buy their wives sanpro and are totally unfazed by the topic. Is that generally the case please?

It's never occurred to me to ask DH to do that, ever, partly because I'm a better judge of what suits me and partly because....well.....he's a MAN. My dad would have been mortified at the very suggestion that he buy such things for his wife or daughters, and in the intensely patriarchal country we lived in, he'd have been looked at very oddly by the pharmacist.

What happens in your house?

I normally get them (with OH) during the weekly shop. But would send OH for them if the situation arose, he used to work in the health and beauty section in Morrisons so is exceptionally knowledgeable about brands etc!

Sallystyle · 12/08/2015 18:00

I use a moon cup, but DH will often buy me sanitary towels.

Whoever is going to the shops will get them.

Sallystyle · 12/08/2015 18:01

BTW my teen son has bought them for me a few times as well. Not an issue at all.

Pedestriana · 12/08/2015 18:03

Whoever is going to the shoes when its needed.

When I was growing up, we didn't discuss such things, unless in whispers behind closed doors. Sanitary towels only were purchased, in an embarrassed manner.

My products are decanted into easy-access flip-top boxes, left out on the bathroom shelf. Used items are wrapped and placed in the bin. Not particularly to prevent being seen, more to prevent too much mess to clear up later.

fivefoottwowitheyesofblue · 12/08/2015 18:10

This thread has reminded me that sometimes my mum asked me to go to the local shops to get her some sanitary pads. However I didn't go to the Spar I had to go to 'The Wool Shop' where said item was put into a brown paper bag Confused.

I'm a 70's child btw not 50's Grin

ShelaghTurner · 12/08/2015 18:17

Mooncup and mirena combo here so little use for them now but DH had bought things in the past. He told me early on in the relationship not to bother being shy about periods as he'd grown up in a house full of girls so nothing fazed him. And it doesn't.

ShelaghTurner · 12/08/2015 18:19

That reminds me of a question actually fivefoot. In my favourite show, Call the Midwife, which, if you don't know it is set in late 50s / early 60s, a woman bought some pads from the haberdasher. What's that about?

GoooRooo · 12/08/2015 18:19

I buy it during our weekly online shop. However, if DH was going to the supermarket and I needed some he'd have no problem buying it.

He had to buy extra maternity pads for me when I had DS. Didn't bat an eyelid.

Brummiegirl15 · 12/08/2015 18:21

I cannot bear the term Sanpro either!!!

I buy my own as it's me who does the shopping and I just sling in the trolley. But DP wouldn't be fazed.

When I had an mc I had to send him out for massive maternity pads and he bought the correct ones. I've got all my Tampax etc down the side of the loo in our en-suite bathroom and DP has never mentioned it

LadyPlumpington · 12/08/2015 18:32

I've got used to seeing the term used here - not too fond of it myself but have clearly acclimatised Grin

FindoGask · 12/08/2015 18:35

I don't buy 'sanpro' any more as I use a mooncup, but my husband used to buy tampons for me quite happily if need be.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 12/08/2015 18:36

San pro is fine imo, my mum used it back in the early 80's so not a MN phrase.

ThisIsClemFandango · 12/08/2015 18:41

DP has bought them for me before when he's been out and I needed some, inc extra maternity pads when I had DS, he's never batted an eyelid about it. It's not like I'm asking him to clean me up and insert my tampon for me! Grin

I have very irregular periods though (maybe 3 or 4 a year) so I don't need them often. I usually buy myself as I know when I've run out, though once I hadn't realised I had run out and DP had to do a quick pharmacy dash while I sat on the loo Blush

ThisIsClemFandango · 12/08/2015 18:42

I've never heard of 'sanpro' until this thread! We just call em pads and tampons

GoodbyeToAllOfThat · 12/08/2015 18:43

My husband would buy them only under duress. I am pretty organised in this regard, for example I typically have something like 20 toothbrushes on reserve, so it's unlikely that I would actually need him to sort this out for me.

fuzzpig · 12/08/2015 18:44

DH isn't remotely fussed if I ask him to get some for me (and is equally happy asking me on the phone what brand I want etc, so not bothered about talking about it either)

My dad was the same.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/08/2015 18:45

Whoever is going to the shop. Really not an issue.

flanjabelle · 12/08/2015 18:46

Dp has no problem with the concept of buying me sanpro, but is utterly baffled by the selection. He has no understanding of the need for different absorbancy ratings, applicators or non applicators, wings or no wings. He has asked me to explain a couple of times, but it just doesn't stick and he ends up baffled again.

PourquoiTuGachesTaVie · 12/08/2015 18:46

When I used disposable sanpro then Dh would buy it if he was the one doing the shopping. He did this really clever trick where he remembered what the packaging of the sanpro had looked like when it was sat in the bathroom and bought the same packaging from the shop!

GoodbyeToAllOfThat · 12/08/2015 18:47

Perhaps I'm just old-fashioned, but I prefer to sort it out on my own. Despite having had two children with my husband, I don't publicise my period.

PourquoiTuGachesTaVie · 12/08/2015 18:49

Pads from a haberdasher = washable cloth sanpro.

whatisforteamum · 12/08/2015 18:50

My husband has always bought them...i used to find it embarrassing as a teen waiting in the chemist queue of the local shops as if to announce "its that time of the month". No need for them now however dd puts them in the supermarket trolley while shopping with him.Thankfully times have changed and it isnt hushed up anymore and the same goes for buying condoms its just part of everyday life :)

NorbertDentressangle · 12/08/2015 18:51

I buy them.

If I sent DP to buy them I'm pretty sure he'd walk up and down the aisle not knowing where to start and end up getting the wrong sort. I mean, I find it a minefield sometimes (eg. I accidently bought some scented ones - bleurgh!).

When I was kept in hospital for longer than I'd planned for after having DD I ran out of maternity pads one evening. DP was dispatched to a late night Boots and bumped into one of the other Dads from the ward. The 2 of them bonded over their utter bewilderment of the range of products in the Feminine Hygiene aisle!

CaptainHammer · 12/08/2015 18:51

DH gets them a bit cheaper with his work discount card so he tends to buy them, unless they are on a decent offer when we do our weekly shop. He knows which ones to get and is not fussed, he lived with his very open mum and 3 sisters!

My ex on the other hand was completely different, shouted and didn't talk to me for a week after I left a clean/unused tampon on the side in the bathroom!

SchwarzwalderKirschtorte · 12/08/2015 18:51

I bought shed loads in a Boots glitch a while back so we're still working through the mountain of them Grin
