To miss the days when people were just 'thirsty'?!

What's all this shit with, 'hydrating'? It's called drinking fucking water!

Whenever I hear someone claiming to be 'dehydrated', I want to reach for my revolver. No, dear, you're not dehydrated, you're just thirsty. It won't hurt you to wait twenty minutes for a drink.

Advanced capitalism, combined with nanny-statism seems to have fostered a nation of adult-babies who can't got five minutes without a snack, needing a piss, or a plastic bottle to suck on. It truly does my head in.

I can't remember the last time I sat through a film or a play without multiple audience members nipping out at least once during the show. Yes, I do appreciate that SOME people suffer incontinence, or might have needed a shot of insulin but, come on, not on this scale!

you really are making a fool of yourself, it's embarrassing to watch

it isn't me making a fool of myself, it is the sucklers, so deeply invested in the myths and pseudo science needed to prop up their psychological dependency.

Someone up thread actually claimed that water must be hydrating because hydrating starts with "hydra"!!!!

You can't get logic any wilder or more nonsensical than that!

Feline9 · 14/08/2015 18:14

Charis, believe me, you really are making yourself look a knob

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 14/08/2015 18:14

here is a shovel, keep digging yourself deeperand deeper into the pit of stupid. you seem to enjoy it

Charis1 · 14/08/2015 18:15

Ffs, of all the things to get het up about, other people having a sip of water seems pretty extreme. why on earth does it bother you?

it isn't one sip, is it, it is constant. It is a dirty, noisy, inconvenient, wastes every body's time, unhygienic, causes litter, environmentally damaging, unhealthy, irritating, demanding, passive aggressive, entitled, bloody nuisance to everyone.

Charis1 · 14/08/2015 18:17

not only that, but also a psychological dependency propped up and validated by charlatans, many in the bottled water or in the advertising industry.

HungryHorace · 14/08/2015 18:22

How does me drinking water waste 'everybody's' time?! That's utterly ridiculous and you're making yourself look quite hysterical in your assertions, Charis.

I drink plenty of water at work as the air con is really drying. Nobody else seems arsed, funnily enough!

You'll bust a blood vessel getting so het up at what is really bugger all.

Charis

are you saying that linguistics is a pseudo science? as defined by you?
can you not realize that the poster above was correctly stating that hydro is to do with water,
(hydra is polyp) because it means water?!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 14/08/2015 18:31

I don't know where to start with that rant, charis.

Many of your complaints can apply equally to drinking or eating other things - in fact, drinking cans or bottles of fizzy drinks or cartons of drink are likely to cause more litter, because many of us reuse water bottles, whereas a carton of orange juice is used once then discarded, as is a can of cola. They contain as much liquid as the same amount of water, so will cause as many visits to the loo (and may cause more, as sugary, fizzy drinks can irritate the bladder in some people.

And how, in the name of all that is holy, can drinking WATER be UNHEALTHY?? That is the single most barking mad statement I have read on here in a long time!

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 14/08/2015 18:35

SDTG

next we'll be told water is unhealthy because it's full of calories and therefore it makes you fat

Whatthefucknameisntalreadytake · 14/08/2015 18:36

This thread is bonkers. People who get all wound up about their fellow humans having the audacity to drink water and go to the toilet regularly, are BONKERS!

But I shall enjoy drinking from my water bottle all the more now that I know it might be really annoying some very unreasonable people.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 14/08/2015 18:36

Ahh yes - that would be it, zing! Grin

Whatthefucknameisntalreadytake · 14/08/2015 18:38

In fact rather than just sipping my water as I have traditionally done, I am going to start actually suckling the bottle :) maybe I'll find it as comforting as the Op, Charis and Ten obviously do, and I'm never one to look a comfort gift horse in the mouth.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 14/08/2015 18:39
Wink

I'm grateful for this thread, it helped me achieve drinking 2l of water today. I peed a lot too.
It's nice to know I can do both passive -aggressively
how refreshing!

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 14/08/2015 18:41

I only look down on suckling because I like to drink my cool beverages through a straw. slowly slurping, that goes without question, to achieve maximum passive - aggressivity

BertrandRussell · 14/08/2015 19:17

Ther is a lot of ridiculousness on this thread. But some facts.
These are the facts.

  1. The 2-or even 1 litre of water a day thing has no evidence to back it up at all.
  2. Neither has the assertion that thirst is a sign of anything but thirst-not dehydration. The body is an excellently tuned system- it tells us what we need and when.
  3. We take in a lot of fluid from food and other drinks- water is not essential.
  4. The research and the journalism on this subject is largely sponsored by the bottled water industry.
  5. The waste produced by bottled water is hugely damaging to the environment
  6. 650 million people live without access to fresh water. £15 can provide such access for 1 person. At least give up bottled water and donate the money you save to a charity such as Wateraid. It's easy to spend £15 a month on bottled water- donating that would give 12 people access to fresh water in a year. You could do that. Easily.
squoosh · 14/08/2015 19:23

it isn't one sip, is it, it is constant. It is a dirty, noisy, inconvenient, wastes every body's time, unhygienic, causes litter, environmentally damaging, unhealthy, irritating, demanding, passive aggressive, entitled, bloody nuisance to everyone.

I refer you again to my earlier post which pointed out that all these things can be applied to other beverages.

Now off you go and press a cold flannel to your extremely fevered brow.

Bunbaker · 14/08/2015 19:23

Great post BertrandRussell

squoosh · 14/08/2015 19:25

Yes ditch the bottled water and embrace the kitchen tap and a filter jug.

Whatthefucknameisntalreadytake · 14/08/2015 19:44

I buy a bottle of water about once a month and then refill it from the tap, so not environmentally perfect but not that heinous either.
In terms of wasting time at work, if I fill a big bottle up before I leave the house in the morning then I spend literally no time at work going to get refills.
I don't drink water throughout the day because I've been told it's good for me, I do it because I like it, and I can, and I feel better for it.
Most tea and coffee is not fair trade and is not without significant environmental impact in terms of production, packaging and transportation so I don't feel that bad about buying approx 12 bottles of water a year.

ISpidersmanYouMeanPirate · 14/08/2015 19:46

I can't get past the idea that I'm being passive aggressive by bringing a bottle of water into meetings?!

I get migraines unless I drink little and often. I've tried drinking a large amount less frequently but it doesn't work. I Often have several meetings in a row so can't drink in between unless I take my bottle.

I spend a lot less time refilling my bottle than colleagues who drink coffee and/or take cigarette breaks.

I Never use a sports bottle so don't make sucky noises.

Whatthefucknameisntalreadytake · 14/08/2015 19:48

You're not being passive aggressive Ispiders, it's just that it turns out that there are people out there who will literally take offence at anything!

ISpidersmanYouMeanPirate · 14/08/2015 19:50

So it seems!

Bunbaker · 14/08/2015 19:52

I also fail to understand why seeing someone drinking water is something to get worked up about. I would just be worried about someone who drinks several litres of the stuff in case they had undiagnosed diabetes.

Cotto · 14/08/2015 19:53

I drink tap water Bertrand but I agree with that bottled water is bad for the environment.
I take it that you don't drink canned fizzy drinks, alcohol, juice, take away coffee either ??
Just as damaging for the environment.
