To miss the days when people were just 'thirsty'?!

What's all this shit with, 'hydrating'? It's called drinking fucking water!

Whenever I hear someone claiming to be 'dehydrated', I want to reach for my revolver. No, dear, you're not dehydrated, you're just thirsty. It won't hurt you to wait twenty minutes for a drink.

Advanced capitalism, combined with nanny-statism seems to have fostered a nation of adult-babies who can't got five minutes without a snack, needing a piss, or a plastic bottle to suck on. It truly does my head in.

I can't remember the last time I sat through a film or a play without multiple audience members nipping out at least once during the show. Yes, I do appreciate that SOME people suffer incontinence, or might have needed a shot of insulin but, come on, not on this scale!

OP posts:
ShortandSweeter · 17/08/2015 10:40

I think the real question that the OP should be asking here is 'why does it bother me that much?'

Tenieht · 17/08/2015 10:40

I think controls will need to be brought in soon. If I was writing up HR policies I would be seriously considering banning water bottles and public drinking from them particularly in client facing areas. It just looks so casual and slobby.

MitzyLeFrouf · 17/08/2015 10:44

Don't forget 'passive aggressive'. I know how threatened you personally feel by water.

MiscellaneousAssortment · 17/08/2015 12:23

But you'd have to ban the clients drinking too, which would be a bit silly really.

Are these ominous 'controls' going to come from the government or HR by the way? And how will it be enforced? Police perhaps? On the spot arrests for such foul and antisocial behaviour? I'm sure they'd have plenty of time to help enforce this terribly important dictat.

I'm just wondering who or what you are expecting to step into the breach and contravene human rights and deny people the right to tend to their own bodily needs? And how you're planning on allowing the medically necessary drinking to continue? Perhaps some kind of badge or label? Or maybe it's easier to deny them altogether and force them out of society altogether?

And then after that, when you've managed to erode any value in tolerance or diversity, will you be happy when other laws get passed that you may not agree with, but won't have a choice anymore.

(Bonkers, really).

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 17/08/2015 14:14

Water bottles are sensible because they won't spill, if knocked over. With everyone's desk having a plethora of technological gear, sure,y it's a good idea not to risk filling the company laptop with water?

And if you are banning water bottles, Tenieht, will you also be banning other bottled drinks, or drinks in cartons? Or are sticky, sugary, fizzy drinks fine and dandy? Is water casual and snobby, but chemical-ridden diet cola classy and utterly acceptable?

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 17/08/2015 14:18

SDTG

I think you missed the "Inbru is more superior to water" argument
that's why dinosaurs died out. no access to Inbru

noeffingidea · 17/08/2015 14:42

Are Charis and Tenieht the same person by any chance? Their rants seem quite similar.

HungryHorace · 17/08/2015 14:49

I wondered that, effing.

MitzyLeFrouf · 17/08/2015 14:51

The thought briefly occurred to me.....

ProvisionallyAnxious · 17/08/2015 14:53

A related question is: where is the OP? NC'd perhaps?

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 17/08/2015 14:56

maybe she evaporated...

ArgyMargy · 17/08/2015 15:46

Damn I thought this silly season thread had come to a natural end last night.

I found myself advising someone to hydrate today - wtf??!

trollkonor · 17/08/2015 16:04

If she has evaporated I wonder how long it will take for the first molecule to end up in a bottle of water.

ppeatfruit · 17/08/2015 16:08

Yes good question SDTGIsAn Why are plastic bottles full of 'pop' acceptable to the water haters? It's so irrational.

MiscellaneousAssortment · 17/08/2015 16:50

Anyone else really craving an Irnbru?! Slurp slurp spill dribble drip

ProvisionallyAnxious · 17/08/2015 17:54

Don't forget to suckle it, Misc. Wink

StrattersDairyProductPervert · 18/08/2015 22:43

Phew. Finally made it to the end, and it's all become perfectly clear.

Charis has hydrophobia.

Pipbin · 19/08/2015 07:59

I think that Charis's issues with water are actually nothing to do with water itself.
She is a teacher and I think that there are children coming into her class that are refusing to put their water bottles away and continue to drink from them and dick about with them when they should be listening, or spill the water onto their work or equipment. Rather than seeing that the issue is with the behaviour of children in her class she blames the water bottles.
She also has issues with other member of staff. These members of staff tend to keep a water bottle with them that they drink from throughout meetings. The member of staff pisses her off but she is channeling her frustration onto the water bottle again.

I want to know how drinking water from a reusable bottle is more environmentally damaging than drinking a cup of tea that uses the same water heated with electricity, which I have added milk to that has come from a plastic bottle and a product of the dairy industry, and a tea bag the contents of which have been flown half way across the world before processing and packaging.

treaclesoda · 19/08/2015 09:36

Hydrophobia stratters. Like when people have rabies? Shock Grin

This thread nearly cost me a job opportunity btw. I attended an interview the other day, it was a very professional and formal setting, lots of stern looks and panel of people staring unsmiling from the other side of a huge table. The first thing they did when I came in was shake my hand and then give me a bottle of water in case I needed a drink. I almost burst out laughing, thinking of how horrified Charis would have been.

nicestrongtea · 19/08/2015 11:01
