We are going on holiday today (just me and dd dp staying here for variouus reasons) and need to be at the airport at 4pm.

Just logged into my online banking to move some money about only to be told that my debit card does not work as there is an issue with it and I should contact the bank.

It was fine last night Confused I now can not move the money, can not take money out or make any payments and my new card will be with me in a few days apparently. They wont' send it to the hotel abroad sadly

Its my only payment method (no credit card no other current accounts) stupid I know but why today.

What the hell am I going to do? DPs solution is that he withdraws money from his account and buys me a pile of euros so I at least have cash but really hate carrying big piles of cash. Starting to think its the only option..

Can you get travellers cheques? Or if you take cash, use the hotel safe in your room?

PippaPug · 11/08/2015 10:24

You can get a card and pre load it with Euros - if you need more money then you can or your DP can do it for you :)

You can get them at Thomsons, Asda and a few other places so hopefully one near you!

Thank you. I'll definately need a payment method. Was going to transfer money to current account, go to post office, get some euros just to have some cash and then use debit card for most payments.

The card sounds like a good plan thank you will investigate - fast!

You can get the pre loaded cards at the post office, so just pick one up while you're there getting the cash sorted :) enjoy your break!

Take your dp's card and leave him with the cash. New one will arrive in a couple of days for him. Use each other's cards until you return (we've done this)

As above ^^ but wanted to
Wish you a great holiday. How bloody stressful though.

Thomas Cook Money, Travellex, Amex travel etc etc all do the preload cards, some even allow for you to top up remotely. All available at the airport. Allow some extra time to collect one?

We're back. Just wanted to thank you all for your help and tell you we did manage to get a preloaded card at the post office. My new bank card has now arrived and all is well (except the huge pile of washing and dealing with DP's idea of housework Grin )
