Is a bit of a nob?
I get that actors don't want to be filmed and think its bad when people use mobiles in live theatre.
But its hardly 'mortifying' as he told his 'fans'
He wants to live in the real world, he may then understand the true meaning of mortifying.

Refreshing to see on the Same news item that a Beatles tribute band actively encourage people to film their show.

I felt the same in the Vatican. A load of eejits taking photos of the artwork on their mobiles. Why? Why not look at the painting? You'll probably never have a chance to see it as the artist intended again. The gift shop probably has excellent photos of the paintings if seeing them in person is too real.

Also, remove your rucksack you fool. It's not a mountaineering expedition. Not relevant but the memory of being knocked in the head while looking at a painting by someone trying to not experience any moment that didn't involve their phone...

Vycount · 10/08/2015 22:57

One definition of "mortify" is to cause someone to feel embarrassed or ashamed, so I think that as a man who probably uses his words carefully, he probably described how he felt quite accurately.

bettyberry · 10/08/2015 22:57

How can you truly be in the moment, enjoying a performance if you are watching through a lens/tiny screen?

I too hate seeing it at school events.

Gigs its just as bad! Enjoy the moment. Live in it, not through a piece of kit!

hairtoday1 · 10/08/2015 22:57

Maybe he meant mortifying in the other sense. Or something

Highfivethatfart · 10/08/2015 22:57

Spot on mrsdavidbowie. Couldn't agree more.

Postchildrenpregranny · 10/08/2015 22:57

I have tickets to see this and would be very annoyed if someone near me filmed it . Distracting for audience as well as actors.

paulapompom · 10/08/2015 22:57

Didn't some one stop acting in the middle of a play once and tell someone on the phone to pack it in?

Corygal · 10/08/2015 22:57

I agree with BC - grim for him.

pomegranatesandfilms · 10/08/2015 22:58

Yes it annoys me. My Dd's friend's mum films/photographs at every opportunity. She always says when taking a picture, I'll send one to you, as if I've forgotten my camera and if I miss something she sends me a picture! Ffs I don't want a picture of everything! I want to experience some things in real time and let my memory deal with it. So yes I'm with the Cumberbatch.

Caprinihahahaha · 10/08/2015 22:58
Grin

Well yes wolportinger said exactly what you were trying to say - by saying what you said.

Calling him whiny and a nob and taking issue with mortifying seems to be it really.

laffymeal · 10/08/2015 22:58

Most people disagree with you op

I can understand why he finds it embarrassing. It's really annoying and 100% not on... It's distracting for the actors but absolutely infuriating for anyone say behind them. If it's really that imperative that they film their experience they should get a small go pro type camera- no lights or lcd screens to interfere with everyone else's night out.
I don't even have the words for people who think an iPad is appropriate for holding up and filming, taking photos etc.

LavenderRain · 10/08/2015 22:59

laffymeal care to explain why I should fuck off??
I am just airing my opinion as many do on AIBU
it seems the majority think IABU which I will accept.
I don't feel I deserved to be told to fuck off tho!

And why pay for a ticket to see it live if you are then going to watch it through a lense? It would be cheaper/easier to watch it in a cinema on Oct 15th . And no doubt there will be a DVD at some point

vaticancameos · 10/08/2015 23:00

It's not just the distraction and irritation but it's a copyright reason too. I've worked FOH and it's a pain in the arse trying to get the attention of people photographing or filming when the are sat in the centre of a row. Especially when you have companies like Disney insisting in your ear that devices are confiscated and footage deleted on the spot. It's just not fun. Especially when audience members attack.

paulapompom · 10/08/2015 23:01

Did someone tell the op to fuck off

pomegranatesandfilms · 10/08/2015 23:01

I do a halfwit.

paulapompom · 10/08/2015 23:02

X post with op

pomegranatesandfilms · 10/08/2015 23:02

fuzzy

DoJo · 10/08/2015 23:02

From what I read, the performance had to be stopped twice because of technical difficulties and then when he restarted he was further hampered in his efforts to give a good performance by some selfish shit filming him. He found it difficult to give his all in a show that people had paid good money to see - I can see how someone whose profession relies on them being able to focus on their part could find that 'mortifying'.

JohnFarleysRuskin · 10/08/2015 23:02

Who's going on the 15th?

I am. But is it really four hours long Shock

JohnFarleysRuskin · 10/08/2015 23:05

You shouldn't have been told to fuck off op. You should have been asked if you had overdone it on the glue. Flowers

HopeClearwater · 10/08/2015 23:05

From what I can see on The Facebook, a lot of people don't know how to use the word 'mortifying' anyway... So what's wrong with him using it in the correct sense?
