My son is eating a kiwi all wrong.

He's eating it like you would an apple, skin and all.

He says it's delicious, he's had two in a row now.

I have always peeled kiwis and discarded the skin, surely what he is doing is an abomination?

That has made me shiver and twitch!

WorktoLive · 10/08/2015 14:47

I don't eat kiwi skin because it makes my mouth all tingly.

In other news, I discovered only yesterday that if you roast a butternut squash whole (well cut in half lengthways) you don’t have to peel it and can eat it all, except the seeds and knobbly bits at each end.

All my life not quite I think I was probably at least 30 before I ever had it I have been risking life and limb peeling round the outside and only now do I find out you don't need to Shock From now on, if I want squash I will just roast it and either eat it as is or chop it up and stick it in curry/stew or whatever.

YABU Your son is correct. I don't like kiwi fruit much though.

Chunkymonkey79 · 10/08/2015 16:06

I cut the top off and dig the insides out with a spoon!

Skin is yuk though.

The5DayChicken · 10/08/2015 16:15

I've never managed to bring myself to eat anything hairy. Maybe if I shaved the kiwi first...

CrystalMcPistol · 10/08/2015 16:28

Top and scoop. Any other method is wrong.

echt · 10/08/2015 16:52

I eat the whole fruit, prefer golden kiwifruit, no hair and better flavour.

Mulligrubs · 10/08/2015 16:56

But the skin is fuzzy! Isn't that gross?

I chop them in half and use a spoon to scoop bits out to eat a spoonful at a time. Yum!

NoMontagues · 10/08/2015 16:56

like eating a tarantula

*Nobody should eat kiwis.

Kiwifruit on the other hand...*

GrinGrin PotofYoghurt

DD1 likes to point at signs in the supermarket and shout "Look, Mummy, they're selling Daddy". Kiwi DH has less of a sense of humour and just goes around muttering "kiwifruit, kiwifruit"

(I eat them like a boiled egg, as does DD1, DD2 likes hers in quarters and then kind of sucks them like orange quarters. We all prefer the golden ones to the green ones. I've never known DH to eat one. )

CrystalMcPistol · 10/08/2015 17:05

I've had a good munch on a Kiwi in the past. Wink

NoMontagues · 10/08/2015 18:03

You're a brazen hussy Ms crystal

I like them but the little black pips are so sour. It's making my mouth water just by thinking of finding a stray pip down the side of my tongue/throat and then getting the zingy taste

Never would I eat the hairy skin though!

vestandknickers · 10/08/2015 18:53

Very excited about worktolive's butternut squash revelation. They're buggers to peel.

I always thought figs needed peeling. Turns out they don't.

FithColumnist · 10/08/2015 19:56

YANBU. This is not your child. Your child was stolen at birth and replaced by this monstrosity. What he is doing is against all the laws of God and man. I'm afraid the only way forward is either cleansing with holy fire or some kind of elaborate exorcism.

GrouchyKiwi · 10/08/2015 20:01
Sad

Kiwis are not for eating, especially grumpy ones.

Like vvviola's husband, I too wander around muttering about kiwifruit.

But your son is being unreasonable; kiwifruit are revolting and no-one should eat them.

pigsDOfly · 10/08/2015 20:20

Most boring fruit on the planet. I tired eating the skin on one once in the hope it might actually make the horrible things taste of something, turns out the skin is just as tasteless, but hairy; bit like trying to eat the outside of a coconut.

PotOfYoghurt · 10/08/2015 20:45

Good golly you're right, the skin is awfully hairy!
