To think that photos of children with food all over their faces are NOT cute?

Yet another child on FB with dried food stuck all over it's face. It's actually only parents think their kids look cute like this and quite frankly the novelty wears off pretty quickly.

Please stop doing it makes me feel sick.

Totally!
I saw one cake smash photo of a child covered in chocolatey brown buttercream icing. It was so unfortunate as to be untrue. The I aren't seemed impervious

pictish · 10/08/2015 10:11

I never thought posting a pic of my baby covered in chocolate would bother anyone!

Well now you know, you can stop doing it. Chocolate ick is especially gross.

pictish · 10/08/2015 10:19

P.s I like baby pics but just not foody ones.

GinLimeandLemonade · 10/08/2015 10:37

I'm the odd one out obviously, I think they're fine! If my friends on social media have a problem with pictures of my child (in any situation) they can unfollow/unfriend Smile

Just like when I unfriend people for posting stuff I don't like!

pictish · 10/08/2015 10:43

I tend to just hide the particular photo. Anything that makes me gip gets taken away. It's easy enough to do.

OstentatiousBreastfeeder · 10/08/2015 10:48

If it's on purpose, I'm not fussed. I have a picture of DS smothered in lasagna the first time he ate it, he was having so much fun I wanted to capture it.

When it's not the feature of the photo though, I just think they look dirty. Why would you want to take a picture of your child with their last meal on their face? Got baby wipes don'tcha?

MrsTedCrilly · 10/08/2015 10:52

Maybebabybee- Of course not, what a very odd thing to say.

Pictish- Nope. You should take a look at yourself and work out why you're so sensitive.

maybebabybee · 10/08/2015 10:56

Maybebabybee- Of course not, what a very odd thing to say.

I don't see why, as chocolate and poo look the same :S

MrsTedCrilly · 10/08/2015 11:01

But people don't have a habit of posting pics of their babies faces covered in poo... What kind of friends do you have? Grin

EponasWildDaughter · 10/08/2015 11:03

To all the food pic posters:

perhaps it's a revelation to a lot of posters to learn that a good sized percentage of people DONT thinks pics of your child covered in food are cute.

That doesn't mean you can't do it anymore, but it equally doesn't mean anyone is weird or over sensitive either.

maybebabybee · 10/08/2015 11:05

But people don't have a habit of posting pics of their babies faces covered in poo

But my point was you might as well be doing that if you're going to post pics of your baby covered in chocolate....they both look disgusting.

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 10/08/2015 11:06

Nope, makes me feel sick too. Even pictures of my own when they were small (so we don't have any).

pictish · 10/08/2015 11:11

I don't know why I'm so sensitive to it...it just triggers an unpleasant reaction in me.
Stuff that makes me gip involuntarily...
Baby food photos
False teeth
Dog drool, and that brown sticky stuff hairy dogs get round their muzzles (small gag while writing that)
Phlegm (are you sensing a theme here)
Televised plastic surgery (agh! switch it off...switch it off!)

Conversely I can handle poo, vomit, blood etc.

It's not something I can control.

Creatureofthenight · 10/08/2015 11:11

YANBU. Love my friends' kids, but can do without pics of them with ice cream all over their face this summer.

bigbumtheory · 10/08/2015 11:42

YANBU to feel that way, I feel the same.

YABU to expect people to listen or tailor their own facebook, pictures like this are good for the 'unfollow' button.

And in the case of one grim bugger who put up a nappy shot a day...delete!

LavenderLeigh · 10/08/2015 13:04

For the avoidance of doubt and for one last time
The following truth deserves its own rhyme:

The child with a face of smeared-on brown goo
Looks just like a child who is covered in poo

LaurieMarlow · 10/08/2015 13:12

I LOVE all the pics I have of DS with food all over his face.

For me they capture his joie di vivre, gusto, love of food and fierce independence. The exact opposite of disgusting in my eyes.

But I don't put any pics of my son on Facebook at all, so no danger of offending multitudes of Mumsnetters.

Pardonwhat · 10/08/2015 13:14

In your opinion.
I put one of my daughter on fb the other day after a spag Bol.. Everywhere was covered. It got around 50 likes so clearly not everyone is so disgusted as you Smile

maybebabybee · 10/08/2015 13:17

For me they capture his joie di vivre, gusto, love of food and fierce independence.

Oh lawd.

LaurieMarlow · 10/08/2015 13:19

Oh lawd

And what's your problem with that? I said 'for me'. No compulsion for anyone else to share my view.

maybebabybee · 10/08/2015 13:20

You don't think it simply captures the fact that he's a small child and therefore hasn't mastered the art of putting his food in his mouth properly yet?

There's a picture of me as a child with a bowl of porridge on my head. To me all that photo shows is that I thought my mouth was on top of my head, apparently.

maybebabybee · 10/08/2015 13:21

Also if it was illustrating the fact that I love food/porridge you'd think I would have put it in my mouth, not on my head.

LavenderLeigh · 10/08/2015 13:26

While you may think it's a charming snap
Others just see a kid covered in crap.

LaurieMarlow · 10/08/2015 13:29

Goodness maybebabybe, that's very literal. Not disputing its truth, but there people will see implicit and more symbolic meanings in all kinds of actions. Fine if that's not your bag, but don't assume you speak for me.

What I'm seeing is ... he's a baby, he's learning/discovering, he loves his grub - an entirely life affirming experience for him and me. Which is why I treasure the pics.

splodgeness · 10/08/2015 13:50

YANBU. I don't find it remotely cute. And I am not a clean freak.
