to think the mayo in a jar is different from the mayo in squeezy tubes?

It's just different isn't it? The squeezy stuff is nice and creamy and looks tasty. The the stuff in a jar just sits there looking at you, like it knows it's going to be a disappointment.

DH disagrees, but I am pregnant so he is getting squeezy mayo just for me.
He think's I'm picky, AIBU to want delicious creamy mayo on my chips instead of the imposter that is jar mayo?

Jar mayo wobbles and is sinister. And if you don't close the lid properly it kind of goes translucent and horrifying.

SpaceAdmiralRodcocker · 04/08/2015 19:16

I love mayo, only recently I bought 'salad mayo' as it claimed to be lower calorie and good for sarnies etc.

It's fucking SALAD CREAM!

Phineyj · 04/08/2015 19:17

Three pages in and no-one has mentioned dijonnaise!

Ime the French do squeezy mayo properly - metal tube like UK toothpaste tubes used to be before they changed to useless plastic things.

Trying to clean UK squeezy tubes to go in recyling gives me the rage and yes it does taste different (worse).

HedgehogAtHome · 04/08/2015 20:07

Salad cream is the spunk of satan. Not suitable for human consumption.

much prefer jar to squeezy, taste is beter

Planesmistakenforstars · 04/08/2015 20:49

Prefer jars to squeezy, unless it's kewpie, but neither should ever be hellmans.

babybat · 04/08/2015 21:24

If you like Dutch Mayo, look for the remoulade sauce in Lidl, it's usually next to the Mayo and is yum!

The80sweregreat · 04/08/2015 21:33

The squeezy stuff is awful, you end,up not being able to squeeze enough!
Jars are far better.

VulcanWoman · 04/08/2015 22:13

Hearts, like hedgehog, I store the mayo on it's lid but if it gets tipped over I hold the bottle and do a sharp downward movement to get the mayo back near the top, I'm very tight, nothing gets wasted.
Hedgehog, I agree about salad cream, just the smell of it makes me heave.

avocadotoast · 04/08/2015 22:33

I prefer jarred mayo but squeezy is better for putting on your chips.

Last time I bought some I went squeezy, not sure why. I kind of feel like I can regulate my portion better. With jarred I end up licking the spoon Blush

avocadotoast · 04/08/2015 22:35

Oh, and the Coke hierarchy goes glass bottle > can > big plastic bottle > 500ml bottle.

I could probably sit and sort all the Coke varieties into order of preference.

But I won't.

crazykat · 05/08/2015 13:57

Jarred is much better than squeezy mayo.

The best mayo ever is German mayo, it's the only one I like on chips, along with curry ketchup and the spice mix they put on chips from the takeaway. Only problem is how much it costs to go over there and get it, I love the Christmas market where I can get my really expensive fix of chips with German mayo and curry ketchup. Shame it's only once a year.

Lashalicious · 05/08/2015 15:50

Agree with Max, no way would I buy anything other than Hellman's in a glass jar, it's madness to do anything else.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 05/08/2015 17:32

I just don't get the love for Hellmans, it doesn't taste of anything.

starfishmummy · 05/08/2015 17:38

Agree with a pp. They are different but the jars (full fat hellmans) are far better.

Lagoonablue · 05/08/2015 17:41

Full fat Hellmans in a jar is the business.

Lagoonablue · 05/08/2015 17:41

What's this chip spice you speak of?

avocadotoast · 05/08/2015 18:25

Chip spice www.amazon.co.uk/Original-American-Chip-Spice-Paprika/dp/B004ZF9JXA

It'll change your life. You're welcome.

Chatty987 · 05/08/2015 19:11

They do taste different.

Jar gets my vote every time!

Lagoonablue · 05/08/2015 19:16

Is it like the salt and pepper chillies the Chinese takeaway does?

avocadotoast · 05/08/2015 19:36

No, it's like a powder - paprika, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, maybe some tomato powder? It is incredible.

HedgehogAtHome · 05/08/2015 20:25

Chips, cheese and curry sauce on it's way from the chippy. Yes I will be squeezing mayo all over it. Probably more calories in my condiments than the chips.

Must by chip spice.

I have been convinced for ages that the squeezy mayo is different to the jar mayo but my dh doesn't agree. Hellmanns full fat mayo from a glass jar is wonderful but the squeezy one is definitely different consistency and not as creamy in my opinion

QueenStromba · 06/08/2015 12:05

I make my own mayo. It's not as nice as Hellmans (although I've only just started making it so it might improve) but it's healthier as I make it with olive oil.
