to think the mayo in a jar is different from the mayo in squeezy tubes?

It's just different isn't it? The squeezy stuff is nice and creamy and looks tasty. The the stuff in a jar just sits there looking at you, like it knows it's going to be a disappointment.

DH disagrees, but I am pregnant so he is getting squeezy mayo just for me.
He think's I'm picky, AIBU to want delicious creamy mayo on my chips instead of the imposter that is jar mayo?

HedgehogAtHome it's my theory that the different Coke container materials affect the taste of the drink because of the temperature. Plastic bottles are slightly better insulators, so the drink inside won't be as cold as that in an aluminium can, and that will affect the way your brain perceives the flavour.

ArendelleQueen · 04/08/2015 16:11

I like coke in a can but not coke in a bottle. Glass bottles are tolerable but plastic bottles are no good.

BitOutOfPractice · 04/08/2015 16:11

Have you tried Dutch mayonaise from a squeezy tube? Just like a tomato puree. It is positively the nicest ever thing on chips.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 04/08/2015 16:13

When the squeezy bottle is running low, before I squeeze it I shake it to the bottom.

How?? How do you do this???? My squeezy mayo resolutely stays at the bottom of the bottle, refusing to budge no matter how hard I shake the damn thing.

WeepingBicycleMonkeys · 04/08/2015 16:13

Yes, jar mayo tastes better.
Malteseters out of a box are also much better than the ones in bags, totally different taste

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 04/08/2015 16:13

Dutch mayo on chips is the schizzle

Janeymoo50 · 04/08/2015 16:15

That's because maltesers in a bag sweat, they don't in boxes (I have no technical information to back up this theory of course but it sounds plausible I reckon).

SuperFlyHigh · 04/08/2015 16:19

the squeezy tube is a bugger to get the remainder out of... just saying!

stepsharp · 04/08/2015 16:21

Those little sachets in caffs are always Heinz, which is rubbish and ruins your chips.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 04/08/2015 16:21

Jar mayo every time here, great big spoonfulls. And never Hellmans, bland and tasteless.

starkers1 · 04/08/2015 16:47

100%!!! Always think this, the one is jar is far more "eggy".

Optimist1 · 04/08/2015 16:48

And the jar mayo (I can only speak for Hellmans) insists on throwing itself out of the fridge door onto the kitchen floor, thus breaking the cap. Once was a disappointment, second time was the very last. Back to jars for me.

The5DayChicken · 04/08/2015 16:52

I bought a squeezy bottle a couple of months ago that after the first use simply refused to relinquish any more of the mayo! They are absolutely awful.

The only exception I make are the ones you get from wholesale places and B&M...the type that takeaways use.

orchid15 · 04/08/2015 17:04

I regularly have this discussion with DH as the Hellman's squeezy is much more delicious than jarred! He also disagrees!

MaidOfStars · 04/08/2015 17:07

You can't shake a squeezy bottle to get the dregs off, you have to put some centrifugal force on it.

Two ways to do this:

  1. Hold the bottle at the end of outstretched arms, so that the top is furthest away from you. Spin around very quickly. Remember to hold onto it.
-or-
  1. (recommended) Hold the bottle at the base and give it a sharp flick in a downwards direction, using your wrist only. Remember to hold onto it.
HedgehogAtHome · 04/08/2015 18:03

Do you all not just store your bottles of mayo with the lid down? I have never wasted mayo from a squeezy.

Mayo from a squeezy and english mustard is the dogs bollocks with chips.

DonkeyOaty · 04/08/2015 18:10

Wtf is dutch mayo? You bastards have already TAUNTED me with fkin Chip Spice which I CAN'T FIND anywhere local. (Live in the sticks)

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 04/08/2015 18:10

I bought squeezy once, from Aldi. Even though it was stored top down it stayed resolutely at the other end of the bottle. As I don't like Hellmans, that limits my squeezy options too, so it's jars all the way here. Anyway, they're also better because you get to lick the spoon!

desperatehousewife2 · 04/08/2015 18:16

We only ever have Hellman's jar mayo in this house. Everything else is just plain wrong .

The5DayChicken · 04/08/2015 18:21

I'm feeling slightly let down that 45 posts in nobody has told us that all shop-bought mayo tastes synthetic and that they make their own using unicorn eggs and fairy tears. Grin

The5DayChicken · 04/08/2015 18:23

Free range unicorn eggs, obviously.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 04/08/2015 18:25

I've only tried making it once and it didn't work at all. Waste of good eggs that was.

RatOnnaStick · 04/08/2015 18:28

I have far to much in my life to faff about making mayonnaise when there is perfectly good stuff in a jar.

MrsPnut · 04/08/2015 18:41

I only like squeezy mayo and it has to be the Benedicta brand which you can't buy in the UK. I have people turning up after they've been on holiday to France with bags of the stuff. I also have people asking if I've got enough for them to have a bottle because they've tasted it at my house.

I look like I'm running some kind of underground mayonnaise supply ring. If I get busted, I shall supply the police with egg mayonnaise sandwiches and get rid of the evidence.

GloGirl · 04/08/2015 18:49

YANBU OP. Jarred mayo is all bleugh and has old mayo going all disgusting.

Squeezy mayo is all nice and fresh and every use is smug and delicious.

Jarred mayo should be banned.

When squeeze mayo gets too difficult to squeeze out, sacrifice the bottle for your sanity, get nice shiney new bottle of mayo and repeat smugness.
