We have 3 dc's under 5. We eat most days at 5pm. Nice to eat with the family around the table but it always leaves me peckish by about 8pm. I'm on mat leave so that's why I'm able to eat at this time.

My dd has her dinner at 4.30, oh and me can be anywhere between 8-9.30 depending on what we've got to do, what time dd has gone to bed. I do eat breakfast and lunch with dd each day though.

IShallCallYouSquishy · 04/08/2015 12:53

Dinner at 1700 with the DC (3.2 and 17.5mo)

DH isn't often home in time so his is plated up to reheat once he's home/kids in bed.

On day I'm at work they have dinner at CM so DH and I will eat once they're in bed. On my night shift I eat at work anytime between 2000-2200. DH will do the DC dinner usual time then feed himself once they're in bed.

Other than that I always eat with the DC.

Georgiedawes · 04/08/2015 13:33

We mostly have tea at 6-6.30, sometimes later.

Georgiedawes · 04/08/2015 13:34

My parents have their tea at about 5.15 but I doubt there are many couples where both parties are at home by then.

GemmaTeller · 04/08/2015 13:39

Any time between 4 and 7.

There's only us two now and mealtimes are always flexible.

Enidblytonrules · 04/08/2015 13:44

has varied over my life time

pre school dc - we all ate at 5 pm when my dh got home from work and then dc went to bed at 6 pm.
school age dc - we all ate at 4.30 pm - dh early retirement, I worked pt and collected dc from school, dh prepared dinner and evening then free for activities
dc at work - we all ate at 5.30 pm when they got home from work
dc moved out - dh and I eat main meal at 12 noon - I work from home now - and then have snack 'sometime' later.

I do not like eating main meal after 6.30 ish in evening because it lays heavy on stomach for the whole night.

MegEmski · 04/08/2015 13:55

For us it is definitely SUPPER! dinner is if you go out / are invited for a dinner party.

We eat anytime from 7.30 - 9.30, generally around 8 or 8.30.

No DC yet

Pengweng · 04/08/2015 15:33

DTs eat at 5pm and DH and I eat after they go to bed, normally around 7ish. The girls would not be able to eat any later as only 3 and are generally pissed off and cranky if i make them wait past 5 for dinner.
I am hopeful that as they get a bit older we can all eat together at 6pm when DH gets in from work.

JohnCusacksWife · 04/08/2015 15:46

If we're all eating together, which we do most of the time, it's about 5.30. If it's just DH and I probably about 9pm.

I'm surprised by the number of people who eat separately from their DCs. Cooking and clearing up after one mealtime is bad enough. Couldn't be bothered doing it twice!

saresywaresy2 · 04/08/2015 16:08

Early birds here, we have it any time between 5 and 6pm. The kids are 9 and 12 and are able to wait longer now and do so occasionally. But in the main we prefer it earlier. I am a naughty nibbler later on though.....

Artandco · 04/08/2015 16:11

Those eating at 5pm, don't you find it a pain having to be home and prepping dinner around 4pm? That's straight from school pick up for most. Don't you ever fancy spending a few hours outside especially in summer?

whois · 04/08/2015 16:12

Any time between 6 and 10. Prefer about 7.30.

toffeeboffin · 04/08/2015 16:33

DS eats around 6pm. We eat around 7:30pm, once he's in bed.

justwondering72 · 04/08/2015 16:34

We are in France, We all eat dinner together around 7pm, which is early compared to the locals, but we like to eat together as a family, have done since the children were born. It's normal in France for children to keep having an afternoon nap until they are 4 or 5, and for them to stay up later in the evening compared to the UK.

Anything eaten around 4.30 / 5pm is considered 'gouter' which is a afternoon snack for children when the get out of school at 4.30.

thelonggame · 04/08/2015 17:03

we eat together as a family about 6pm, and always have since the kids were born (oldest is nearly 18).
I'm surprised how many people chose not to eat with their kids, a lot of my kids friends never eat with their parents then complain that their parents don't spend time with them. Sad.

GoodbyeToAllOfThat · 04/08/2015 17:11

My kids eat dinner at around 4.30 - they come home ravenous and even a really big snack was not cutting the mustard, so I started feeding them right when they come home from school. They also have a substantial late-evening snack.

There are constant complaints at my kids' school re insufficient school lunches, but that's another subject I suppose.

My husband and I eat at probably around 7.30.

Getthewonderwebout · 04/08/2015 17:15

Eat with the DC, usually 6.45/7.00pm.

holmessweetholmes · 04/08/2015 18:14

Dc are 7 and 9. We eat dinner between 6 and 7 usually. When they were really little they ate at 5:30 ish and we ate at 7ish but I stopped that as soon as felt reasonable, as I prefer us to all eat together. We call it dinner, but we are southerners who have recently moved oop north - perhaps we'll be converted Grin .

2rebecca · 04/08/2015 18:17

7.30-8 not usually home from work until 6.30ish
