To ask what time you eat Tea (or Dinner/evening meal/whatever you call it)

We have 3 dc's under 5. We eat most days at 5pm. Nice to eat with the family around the table but it always leaves me peckish by about 8pm. I'm on mat leave so that's why I'm able to eat at this time.

6.30-7pm and we eat with 13 month old DS. I would prefer a little earlier but that's the earliest DH can get home. I grew up eating quite late though - Italian heritage. It varied but 8pm wasn't unusual.

elQuintoConyo · 04/08/2015 00:05

Term time: 7/7.30 for DS (snack at 4.30 after school), 11pm for me (I work late).

Holiday time: 8.30/9. We get up around 10am, though. I hasten to add we aren't in the UK and call the evening meal 'cena' to avoid a daily row (lighthearted!) about whether it is dinner, tea or supper! Grin

ThereIsIron · 04/08/2015 00:11

Tea is a drink. Dinner is dinner.

TowerRavenSeven · 04/08/2015 03:25

Tea and we've never eaten separately although it would have been nice when ds was tiny but I'm only cooking and cleaning up once! Used to be around 6:30 but dh switched jobs and now it's more like 5:30. Too early but then we have more of an evening.

Before ds dh and I had tea at 7:00-8:00. That was sp nice but how did I hold off for so long?! I can't remember.

Imlookingatboats · 04/08/2015 03:29

Dinner. Though I called it tea as a youngster. Or, as I'm Australian, more like 'toi'. As in "Wots for toi mum"

About 6.30. Much earlier when the kids were little. We always ate together.

SteveBrucesNose · 04/08/2015 03:53

Between 8 and 9. I generally get home at 7, he usually gets home 7:30 to 8 ish

TaylorSwiftMakesMyShitItch · 04/08/2015 05:17

Depends on if dd and dsd are home - on the nights we're all together we'll eat dinner around 6/6:30 (later at the weekend). If there's no children home me and dp will eat around 7/8.

If dinner has been quite light, dp will normally raid the fridge for nibbles around 10.

Weekends we tend to have our big meal together at lunch - so evening meal is normally just leftovers or picky bits.

Sallystyle · 04/08/2015 05:54

About 5.00pm

I don't eat dinner so by 5.00pm I am ready to eat.

Morloth · 04/08/2015 06:21

Weekdays around 6pm.

Weekends we tend to eat our main meal of the day around 3ish rolling together lunch and dinner. Varies though.

eurochick · 04/08/2015 06:24

The nanny feeds the baby dinner around 5/5.30. We eat around 8 usually. That's later than I like but what is manageable (we get in from work around 6.30-7.30).

Sausages123 · 04/08/2015 06:32

Children eat at 5 we eat with them at the weekend otherwise we eat about 1930

contractor6 · 04/08/2015 09:47

When I was working btw 7-9, as thats the time took to get home and cook. Currently just eating when hungry (on mat leave)
My parents eat at 5 though always have, but then they have a supper at 9 ish.

Janeymoo50 · 04/08/2015 09:59

Tea (main evening meal) anywhere between 7-9pm on weekdays. But on weekends we call it dinner (!!) and have maybe slightly earlier. Oh and regardless of what time we have it on a Sunday we also called it dinner never tea as Sunday tea is a whole different meal. I have a friend who calls their main evening meal - Supper - supper to me is a cup of tea and a tunnocks teacake about an hour before bed (but I'm sure that is a whole other thread!!!).

Ifiwasabadger · 04/08/2015 10:09

We both work full time, so DD eats at 5 ish, me and DH more like 8.

operaha · 04/08/2015 10:11

breakfast, lunch and dinner. tea is a drink.
kids (9+15) about 6, me around 8.

WorraLiberty · 04/08/2015 10:16

We eat all together at 5.30pm

Couldn't give a shiny shite whether anyone wants to call it dinner or tea Grin

GlitzAndGigglesx · 04/08/2015 10:19

Dinner around 7pm. DD won't eat a full meal much earlier. I used to cook after she had gone to bed but I cba with that now

Crinkle77 · 04/08/2015 10:28

I call it tea. I don't have kids but I eat at about 5.30/6. I am always starving when I get in from work. I couldn't imagine not eating until 8/9 cos I would be starving. Plus I don't want to go to bed on a full stomach.

ItMustBeBunnies · 04/08/2015 10:32

Tea at around 6pm, all of us together (2 adults + 2yr old). That's the only meal of the day for DH and I only eat twice a day (DS has 3 meals a day), so we're all pretty hungry at that time. I also like to feel fully digested before bed (though I sometimes have a biscuit or cracker & cheese later).

ghostyslovesheep · 04/08/2015 10:33

Tea - kids at 5:30 ish (6,10,12)

I eat later as I often go to the gym or run at 6/7 so don't want to be full of food

Psycobabble · 04/08/2015 10:45

Tea is called tea I believe because of us orrible common working class northerners Wink

I believe ( correct me if I'm wrong ) it's because the main got meal would be had midday and then a light meal of bread and jam and cup of tea after work

so that's why we say breakfast dinner and tea

Supper is something like a little snack before bed

Psycobabble · 04/08/2015 10:45

Hot not got !

Howlingwithlaughter · 04/08/2015 11:45

Mon - Thurs DS & I eat together anywhere between 5 & 5:30 depending on what activity he has. DH has reheated whatever we've had about 8ish when he gets in from work. On Friday DS has tea at his usual time and DH & I eat together at 9ish.
At the weekend we all eat together. No set time. Just whenever it's ready!

chrome100 · 04/08/2015 11:47

Am shocked at fully grown adults eating at 5pm!

We eat together around 8. Kids have a snack after school, bath, pjs and homework, then tea and then bed. They've done this since being tiny.

zukiecat · 04/08/2015 11:48

We don't have a set time,

If I'm working I start at 5pm so sometimes I eat around 4pm, and sometimes I wait til I come home at 10pm.

If not working I eat around 5pm, and then make something for DD2 who gets home at 7pm, which is far too late for me.

DD1 works shifts so is in and out at all hours, and I never know when she'll be home so she usually makes her own.

On the odd occasion we're all home together, we eat around 5pm, I'm signed off at the moment so I have my meal about 5pm and DD2 has hers at 7ish.

DD1 is away on holiday just now.
