strange thing to do?

So, we are going on holiday on Thursday. This part of the world is prone to rain. But before we booked we investigated thoroughly, tripadvisor, friends that have been etc.
If you look on the weather report it says thunderstorms every day. But we have been informed that this could be 10mins out of the day then glorious sunshine.

Children returned from their friends house yesterday. The dad gleefully told them he had checked the weather report and "not very nice where you are going"
Do you think this is a bit of a strange thing to do?
When we booked the holiday another friend said "I'm so worried about your holiday, you do know it's the rainy season? "
Would you Google the weather report to check out someone else's holiday?

oh, and I was in Bali during the "rainy season" and there was a heavy, short downpour about 2pm every day and then the sun came out again

was very, very humid though....make sure you drink lots of fluids

Googling specifically a bit odd. But for example I'd know the weather in Florida is even worse than usual at the minute as I go on two Disney forums daily so I might mention it.
