Or is it that I am so proud of my own daughter for working lots of shifts in student bars whilst studying for end of year exams, to pay for her PADI in UK waters, as well as passing the theory, supporting small Britsh businesses, seems slightly worthier? There is bigger news in the world this weekend.

She's on holiday? Again. I can understand her lack of Royal duties due to having 2 small children, even though she has nanny and cook, but it's the holidays she takes that piss me off. What is she on holiday from?

SisterNancySinatra · 02/08/2015 19:35

Perhaps she will do some conservation work with her new qualification.lol.

tarashill · 02/08/2015 19:53

What about the tourists though?

elizadolittlechoc · 02/08/2015 20:31

**it. No one learns to dive for the sake of supporting British business. Errr yes Ptolemy they do! My daughter chose to learn in a deprived area of UK over the tourist traps abroad. People often learn to ski/waterski in this country. It's a family choice to always support locals if we can. Not every one can afford luxury tropical holidays, but want to learn new skills, hence my point.

Its kind of news that makes them even more unpopular. Sending her and Wills to Kent or calais to speak to the drivers held up by operation stack, or visiting a reception centre in kent would be a lot more endearing. Not holding my breath.

StitchingMoss · 02/08/2015 20:54

tarashill, the tourist thing is a total bloody distraction - I do not believe for one second that our tourist numbers would change if we didn't have a royal family. It just wouldn't happen. Tourists come to visit the country and explore its heritage which would all still be here without this bunch of useless buggers swanning around doing sweet fa.

Got to keep Nicholas Witchell and other Royal media in a job. I'm glad she passed the course. Something to do on those long days on lovely summer jaunts at our expense

I like this thread and google for teaching me the phrase, "Bread and circuses.".

It is a weird thing to report isn't it? Should we expect a new story when George has the stabilisers taken off his bike? Exciting for them I'm sure but is anyone else really bothered?

I am pretty sure Republicans don't give a shit about this. But they do care that it's considered important enough to make it onto the mainstream news.

That's definitely my opinion ego. Kate seems nice, and it is totally up to her what she does in her spare time. I object to the media sycophancy. This really should not be news. And don't get me started on the media storms when the babies were born. I've said on other threads that the whole thing reminds me of The Truman Show. They are there to amuse the masses. I object to my taxes supporting this farce and I feel sorry for the kids (particularly Charlotte-how long before we get the articles on how she is too fat/thin/clever/thick/single or whatever the Faily Mail decides to headline on).

Err except they do have a choice; they could use their priveliged education to get a proper job and a mortgage/disappear out of the circus. Wonder what's stopping them?

Totally agree Stitchingmoss just thought I'd throw it in. I'd even go as far as to say I think we'd get more tourists if we didn't have them. Empty those huge palaces and let the tourists in. Buck house would make a super hotel.

StitchingMoss · 02/08/2015 21:33

It would be up to her what she did in her "spare time" (does she have any other time than spare time??) if I wasn't bloody paying for it.

Nah, don't buy the sense of duty - why would they give up their unbelievable life of luxury for hum drum jobs/mortgages etc.

They must sit in their palaces of a night and laugh their arses off that so many people fawn and bow and scrape to them.

And no, they don't fail at anything. They've been educated at schools that wouldn't have given them the time of day if they hadn't been royals (they're not the brightest bunch), given jobs they don't deserve, and so on.

And tarashill, yep, agree, they'd flock in to see it!

Degustibusnonestdisputandem · 02/08/2015 21:35

Indeed. Big whoop. I have PADI advanced cert too, it's not exactly hard (& I did mine in the Southern Ocean).

tarashill · 02/08/2015 21:47

In years to come, when the royals are consigned to history I can imagine children sitting at their desks amazed and puzzled that their country once had, as head of state, unelected kings or queens who had huge wealth and privilege and had people bowing and scraping and hanging on to their every word purely because of the accident of birth. It's the stuff of fairy tales.

bolleauxnouveau · 02/08/2015 21:53

What Katy did. Could be a good title for a book!!!
I remember there was a bit of publicity when Fergie got her pilots licence, perhaps a few childrens' books about Sally the scuba diver will follow.

PurpleDaisies · 02/08/2015 21:54

Totally agree with your last post there tara.
