To ask where I can send my 57p?

According to the Mirror if all the asylum seekers currently in Calais came into the UK and (highly unlikely) never paid any tax, it would cost each of us 57p.
To save a group of people from some of the most unimaginable horrors in their home countries, I'm more than happy to pay that.
So, where do I sign to pay up (and make it clear I'm happy for them to officially seek asylum and have their claims verified)?

Maybe you didn't understand the posts, though? The bit where you got confused about the difference between 'migrants' and 'people down the pub' was a bit of a glaring one.

Need to be more precise. You got confused about the difference between migrants currently at Calais and people down the pub.

I have been known to be a migrant down the pub from time to time. I didn't want to further your confusion on this point, so I thought it best to clarify.

House prices, and consequently rental prices, are a result of supply and demand.FACT

SanityClause · 31/07/2015 22:49

And Australia has two navy ships tarting around looking for that missing Malaysian air aeroplane. Why are we more concerned about finding out what happened to some rich people that are almost certainly dead, than helping some poor people who are still alive?

swallowed · 31/07/2015 22:51

Ooh are we doing FACT now at the end of sentences?

I heart that, you can get away with all sorts. FACT.

BeyondTheWall · 31/07/2015 22:52

I just tweeted this thread to the mirror and refugee council. Fact.

Yeeees. That was part of miaow's point, I think. There are two parts to the supply and demand situation. Why the focus on only one as if the other is not able to be solved?

longfingernails · 31/07/2015 22:53

SanityClause For some reason, Aussies don't seem to believe Labor on immigration. And why would they? John Howard did a good job of tightening controls, only for Labor to weaken all his policies.

swallowed · 31/07/2015 22:53

Jazzy you forgot to say FACT. FACT.

JassyRadlett · 31/07/2015 22:54

You're right, swallowed. FACT.

swallowed · 31/07/2015 22:55

Jassy, sorry, not Jazzy. Autocorrect!

HellRunner · 31/07/2015 22:55

Oh yes Hell, it was a laugh a fucking minute in the Siberan salt mines, I've heard.

*Then, when they'd half starved you and killed most of your prison mates, the allies came along and offered you a free ticket to fucking anywhere!

He didn't fancy Ibiza, never was one for a party and he'd heard Blackpool had cheap booze so off he toddled to the UK. Except business class was full and he didn't fancy cattle so he fucking WALKED THERE.

You fucking idiot.*

So So I,m a fucking idiot ?? So he had a free ticket so he wasn't an illegal refuge then he just decided to walk there?? . Sure the Sibreian salt mines must have been hell - but obviously not as much as Cattle Class!! Totally ridiculous.

Thank you for calling me a fucking idiot Think you need to look closer in to your family history for that one.

swallowed · 31/07/2015 22:57

Jesus Hell do you have a sense of humour? Do you understand sarcasm?

How old are you? Are you studying WW2 in school?

Am I speaking Swahili?

Someone, anyone, please tell me you understood my post ConfusedHmm

swallowed · 31/07/2015 22:58

Oh god do you think the Allies gave liberated POWs free aeroplane tickets? Really?

JassyRadlett · 31/07/2015 22:59

I am, on occasion, quite jazzy. Grin

(FACT).

swallowed · 31/07/2015 22:59

He was an idiot for walking when he could have flown in a plane? Really?

Allgunsblazing · 31/07/2015 23:00

swallowed, I understood your post. It's ok.

swallowed · 31/07/2015 23:00
JassyRadlett · 31/07/2015 23:02

Hell, shall I deconstruct for you?

Free ticket = released and left to sort oneself out. Hence the walking.

mindfulandgrateful · 31/07/2015 23:08

Can't believe people actually think it's going to cost 57p ???? only.

Hello ? Anybody out there? NHS on its knees ? Yes very much so it can't cope already but yes , let's put even more pressure on it so that it has zero chance of existing for our own children.

Do any of you know ... Yes all you people donating your 57p ... Do you have ANY idea how much it costs for an interpreter for even just one hour?

Theresaflyinmyhouse · 31/07/2015 23:11

Mindful, yes, I do.

You're not very Mindful.

thegreylady · 31/07/2015 23:12

I would happily donate to such a cause.

Theresaflyinmyhouse · 31/07/2015 23:12

Swallowed, I understood too. Your gramps is a hero who escaped and has (hopefully) made a better life for his family.

PurpleSwift · 31/07/2015 23:14

Hope you're not bothered about outing yourself then, beyondthewall because I just found you in seconds.

Patapouf · 31/07/2015 23:14

Lcvely thread OP

I'd happily give 57p a week if it meant it improved the lives of those not born on the 'lucky' continent.

To the PP who is calling humans illegals, fuck off.

mindful do you have any idea how many Calais hopefuls already speak English and therefore won't require an interpreter? They may even speak better English than you!

I've grown up knowing how ignorant people can be on the issue of immigration but the selfishness astounds me. NOBODY deserves more by virtue of the place they were born ffs.
