To wonder why I bothered trying to be helpful with hospital appts

Ds1 has had chicken pox 2.5 weeks, nearly gone, ds2 has had it 3 days and dd is yet to get it.
On Monday dd has a hospital appt, this afternoon I had one in antenatal. I rang both to ask if it was wise to come, or rearrange. Both staff acted like it was an odd question and gave no answer either way.
Would you have rang to check? I was genuinely unsure, both involve contact with vulnerable groups.

I think you were very responsible and considerate. I find it odd they didn't give you an answer.

Our local hospital has a sign outside the children's clinic asking you don't come in if you have CP.

I wouldn't take dd with an obvious rash, I'm just unsure with timescales if she is likely to be brewing it and infectious before the rash appears. If I cancel it though short notice without approval she could get discharged (happened before).
Went too me without her in the end and just used anti bac soap

I suppose they just expected you to decide for yourself. If you (or anyone coming with you) have chicken pox, don't go to a hospital appt. If you, or they, don't, then go to your appt.
They were bemused you expected them to tell you rather than the other way around. You were talking to admin staff not hcp's most likely, so not their job to advise you.

It's hard, isn't it? I rang my docs a few days ago, first thing, to cancel a long standing appointment for the same day as my DC had a stomach bug and I didn't want to bring germs in etc... and I wanted to give them as much notice as I could (admittedly only a few hours, but still, hopefully enough for someone else to take the appointment). I was told that 'I need to give 24 hours notice in future'. I felt like an idiot!

I did the same when shingles coincided with an MRI.

I don't know whether it was admin or technical staff who answered the phone, but whichever they were happy to have a brief, intelligent discussion and decide that, as I had no active rash and would be reasonably covered up, they were comfortable with the risk level.

I'm sorry your responsible behaviour didn't meet with similar, OP.
