to feel quite sorry for Walter Palmer?

Not very sorry what with him being a humungous twat for liking big game hunting, obviously. But seriously, worldwide opprobium and trial by media for partaking in a legal activity (he claims his permits were legit) that is a significant income stream for an impoverished third world country?

Also, while I'm at it, the death of a lion makes headlines? When did you last see a headline about the deaths of six million people in the civil war in the DRC?

YABVU. I hope someone shoots him with a crossbow and burns down his office.

Am also mystified that ANY hunting of Big Five animals is legal under any circumstances. Aren't they all endangered?

Idontseeanydragons · 30/07/2015 10:13

I'm sorry but I'm finding it very strange that in order to publicly display their moral superiority people are fantasising about the death of another person and the destruction of everything he has.
It doesn't make them any better than him tbh.

BakingCookiesAndShit · 30/07/2015 10:15

I agree Dragons.... he should be dealt with through the courts of the country he broke the law in. Killing him solves nothing

TwistInMySobriety · 30/07/2015 10:19

the destruction of everything he has

Thereby extending his misery to his family and employees, who are presumably blameless. Nice, people, give yourselves a pat on the back.

I'll go against the grain and say Yanbu

I don't feel sorry for him personally but I think trial by Twitter is fundamentally wrong.

Idontseeanydragons · 30/07/2015 10:22

Twist & Baking exactly. I think I'm going to have a look at that Jon Ronson book mentioned up thread. It sounds like a good one.

squoosh · 30/07/2015 10:34

This will die down in a week or so, his profitable business will continue to flourish and no doubt he will continue to be an arsehole.

So don't cry too much for Walt.

PickaPengy · 30/07/2015 10:37

Monica Lewinsky did an excellent talk about what she suffered through the media backlash. It actually made me cry at the end. What this sick Walter Palmer will experience will be much worse. I felt sorry for Monica Lewinsky but I do not feel sorry for Palmer.

I hope he gets what he deserves.
He's a dick.

FineDamBeaver · 30/07/2015 10:42

What Idontseeanydragons said. Spot on.

Tippytappytoes · 30/07/2015 10:43

I am reminded of a phrase that was told to me when I was a child, and I have tried to live by it.

'Take your choices seriously, consequences can be harsh.'

YABU. He's a massive thundercunt. I'm 7 months pg. Leave him in a room with me from 2 mins. I wouldn't need a bloody bow and arrow to rip him limb from limb.

My dh likes to shoot with a gun. Pigeon. Duck. We eat them afterwards. I was brought up rurally. We had dogs that coursed. We ate the rabbit after. I understand the need to maintain and control deer, fox (not by horse and hound though, obvs), old, sick or dangerous safari animals.. But I cannot get to grips with the want to shoot a wild animal for fun. You've got to be sick in the head.

OttiliaVonBCup · 30/07/2015 10:54

No the consequences for him won't be proportionate.

It will be far too little.

TheMushroom · 30/07/2015 11:01

Massive twat gets busted doing massively twatty thing and is universally derided for being a massive twat.

Seems fair enough to me.

Downtheroadfirstonleft · 30/07/2015 11:09

I think what he did was hideous, though I hope he is punished with the full force of the law, rather than that of the Internet.

It sounds as though there is quite a complex situation around conservation and the money paid by people paying to hunt (acc to The Times today). They said that more land is protected when there is income as well as conservation. Obviously that doesn't apply to an illegal hunt like this one though. How utterly wrong and utterly premeditated.

TwistInMySobriety · 30/07/2015 11:09

You've got to be sick in the head

says she, while threatening to rip a fellow human being limb from limb...

OP posts:
Mamiof3 · 30/07/2015 11:11

Hope he has to close his business not before giving his employees a large chunk of money

squoosh · 30/07/2015 11:15

says she, while threatening to rip a fellow human being limb from limb...

The difference being that she isn't actually going to do anything to Walt.

TwistInMySobriety · 30/07/2015 11:20

She says she would if she got hold of him... It could be said you have to be pretty, uh, disturbed to threaten extreme violence on someone you've never met and never will.

I think WP is as much of a twat as anyone on here. Difference being I'm not a fan of mob justice and I do like people to be found guilty in, y'know, an actual court of law before baying for their blood.

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 30/07/2015 11:23

Oh well if she said that then shes definitely going to do it then. Got to find him first though......

squoosh · 30/07/2015 11:27

Saying, doing. Big difference. Shame poor old Walt couldn’t have contented himself with joining an online forum and describing how he’d kill a lion rather than trotting over to Africa to actually do so.

Some people are uh y’know, repulsed by anyone who shoots big game, regardless of whether they have the correct permits and what not. So I don’t think it’s just the questionable legality of Walt’s summer holiday killing spree that is upsetting people.

Idontseeanydragons · 30/07/2015 11:33

You seriously don't see anything wrong with fantasising about committing acts of violence in someone and boasting about it? Claiming to be upset about the lion but wanting to murder another person?
Doesn't ring any alarm bells at all?
People on this thread would be happy for him to die over this?
Christ I think he's a twat but let him be pursued through the courts rather than lowering yourself to the mob mentality of the brainless on Twitter!

TwistInMySobriety · 30/07/2015 11:36

YY dragons. Would the limb-from-limb-tearers be happy if he were hounded to the point of suicide?
