To paint my DS toe nails blue?

DS is 6
he has asked if I can paint his toe nails blue - I have blue nail polish so could do this
However he wears sandals in the summer - am I setting him up to be laughed at? It would only be during the holiday time and completely removed before school started. Or should I do it and then wipe it off after a day or so?

This is mn so

If a six year old boy wants his toenails painted then yes, you absolutely must do it.

If a six year old girl wants her toenails painted, then no way!

squoosh · 27/07/2015 16:14

This is mn so if people say they don't care about nail polish on a boy's toes people assume they're appalled at the idea of nail polish on a girl's toes.

My son is 2 and recently wanted his toe nails painted orange like his aunty. He loved it and was quite upset when it wore off!

He is 6. It will come off within seconds if he changed his mind. Paint his toenails! and finger nails if he wants them done!

It's compulsary.

Nothing wrong with a bit of nail polish.. paint away! Grin

earlier this year my 5 year old DS had nail varnish on his finger nails, a pale pink colour, it was during one of the half terms. I meant to take it off before school but forgot. I was mortified when I realised and waited to be 'told off' by him at home time. he had actually forgotten he was wearing and not one person had noticed. phew Grin Grin

I would say that nail varnish is for grown ups - I don't like seeing it on children (boys or girls)
No big problems with it, I just don't like it.

I am the same unsolved

I have a DS and a DD. Have treated them equally in toe nail painting matters. For some reason I feel toe nail painting more acceptable to me than finger nail painting. Not sure why really.

WaxyBean · 27/07/2015 16:32

Fine. My two boys (5 and 3) often have painted toenails - usually in the colours of their favourite football team, but sometimes pink and sparkly. The only rule I have is that they have to take it off for PE at school/nursery as I can't control the reaction to their toenails there.

MrsTerryPratchett · 27/07/2015 16:33

My motto is say yes a lot, so no really means something. If there's no good reason to say no, just do it!

blondegirl73 · 27/07/2015 16:34

I don't have a daughter, but I'd paint her toenails too if she wanted me to. It's no biggie. I don't think it's the same as wearing make-up.

Mindexplode · 27/07/2015 18:13

thanks everyone, toe nails to be painted tonight

I did offer different colours but apparently only electric blue will do. when I moved in with dh we merged male up as he was a social Goth so it doesn't bother me
