Child free day

First AIBU so be nice Grin

Rare day this week where both DH and I are off work but DS 10mo is in nursery. We only get child free time together if my parents are staying as ILs no help with relief childcare. I've had mild PND and not found having a baby very soon in marriage (unexpectedly), mat leave etc. very easy especially as we moved house recently (to completely different area of country where we don't know anyone). Our holiday next week is being spent visiting family.

I would like to spend the day doing something nice with DH (nice lunch, walk etc). He would like to spend the day taking some unwanted furniture back to IKEA (it's been sat in garage for 2 mths) and fitting some stairgates (been sat unfitted for 1 mth). Stuff that's lots easier to do with two people without DS around but I'm feeling sidelined. AIBU?!

Why can't you do both? IKEA first thing followed by lunch and then a walk?

Or DH goes to ikea and you meet him for lunch?

Discopanda · 26/07/2015 23:29

Stairgates can be done in the evening or nap time another day, get IKEA out of the way, get a Daim bar cheesecake whilst you're there and go do something nice!

YANBU! Have a proper day off the pair of you, you'll enjoy it so much.

UngratefulMoo · 26/07/2015 23:29

I don't think either of you ABU! Can't you try and squeeze in a bit of both? Ikea in the morning, a nice relaxed lunch together and then stair gates in the afternoon...?

SweetSorrow · 26/07/2015 23:30

Compromise? Return furniture first thing, nice lunch and walk. Stairgates not urgent if they've been there for a month?

MakeItRain · 26/07/2015 23:31

You should have your lovely day. Tell him you need it. If he doesn't agree if I were you I'd go off somewhere by myself for the day and leave him to sort out the Ikea furniture and stair gates on his own.

ash1977 · 26/07/2015 23:34

Wow thanks for quick replies. I tend to find that IKEA always takes 3 times as long as you want it to...and I'm grumpy about the stairgates as they're now more urgent as DS getting more mobile every day, but my DF was here all last week offering to help with jobs and wasn't taken up on it! I guess maybe I just feel that I'd like to be the first thought for once!

He does IKEA, you do the stair gate, have the afternoon off together?

MomOfTwoGirls2 · 27/07/2015 07:29

Will IKEA take back the furniture after 2 months???

ash1977 · 27/07/2015 09:36

They have a 365 day return policy. Thanks all, he has taken the hint and rearranged so we can have a nice day.

No!!! Go out and enjoy yourselves! Surely one of you can return furniture and fit stairgate by yourselves whilst the other watches your ds.

formerbabe · 27/07/2015 09:40

Posted before I saw the update...have a lovely day!
